El Paso Community College Races

Image
Okay you know Ol' LionStar is scraping the bottom of the barrel when he's writing about community college board races, but hey its a slow election season. Don't worry, we'll get back to more of the fun stuff like that lengua larga Carlos Sierra who is running Mickey Loweree's race in due time...and trust me, that is going to be hilarious. But hey speaking of Republicans, back to the EPCC races... There are three races up for grabs in the the least consequential elected body in the county. There's a reason that you didn't even know there was a community college board until I wrote this post. I had to actually look up who was the trustee that represents me and I'm the Mutha Fuckin' LionStar! Turns out its Bonnie Najera - which is cool because she's a good patriotic American, which is to say she's a Redskins fan, so I therefore think she's a badass. Anywho, there's the seat to replace State Representative Art Fierro, the seat that was va...

Nico Ni Sabe...

Image
Nico Dominguez is one of my favorite characters that occasionally runs for office, right up there with Ben Mendoza. You know, ridiculous candidates that have no business being elected to anything but simply won't get it through their heads no matter how many times voters rejected them. He just doesn't get it. Thus the title of this post. But I actually think he knows exactly what he is doing this time and he just doesn't give a damn about rules - yet another reason no one should ever vote for the guy. His campaign signs blatantly violate campaign rules. You can't use the logo of the political subdivision you are running for. Everyone knows that. If he doesn't, he's too stupid to hold office. Or he knew, and someone that willing to violate rules shouldn't be in office. Here's a look at the sign: The funny thing about this pendejada is that its an EXPENSIVE move. He's going to get in trouble for using the logo. Does this dumbass not realize he's ru...

Josh Carter Failed a Student

Image
Josh Carter, who recently added Guerra to his last name, is a candidate for the Montwood feeder pattern on Socorro ISD. Now full disclosure, I seriously hate the incumbent Hector Gonzalez. He’s a self-hating racist, homophobe, anti-immigrant Republican extremist.  But as bad as Gonzalez is for the district, Carter is worse.  Let me explain why.  At least with Gonzalez, you know what you’re getting.  Carter drives me nuts, so this is gonna take awhile so be patient.  Walk with me… Josh Carter was part of a mentorship program that is part of an initiative of the office of State Board of Education District 1 Member Georgina Perez. The program is an initiative that is purposely not meant for the all-star students in the top ten in their class. Those kids are gonna be fine and will have no trouble getting into good schools for college.  Perez’s program is geared toward that “C” student, who has huge potential but is probably dealing with a range of barriers to s...

The Campaign Logo Awards

Image
Well since everyone is all giddy about award season, I thought I’d hand out some awards here on The Lion Star Blog.  I’m gonna give out awards for logos. Now the first thing you should know about these awards is that they are not commentary on the quality of the candidate. Some of the candidates I think are very qualified. But holy Jesus their logos are fugly.  So lets start with the What in the Hell Were You Thinking Award? This one goes to District 6 candidate (in the Franklin area) Gary Berglund. I feel like I should have put a warning label on this post because of this logo. What in the Bernie Sanders Socialist Rasputin hell is this logo about? I guess the black and white thing is to try to bite off the Beto thing. Then there’s the Bergland for Real thing. What in the hell does that even mean? But that beard thing…I’m just gonna say it because you’re looking at it and you’re thinking it…that space in his beard looks like a vagina from the 70’s - if you get what I mean....

Loweree Courts Controversy...Again.

Image
Mickey Loweree has been synonymous with one thing while she’s been a member of the EPISD Board of Trustees…controversy.   She was a controversial pick from day one and it just seems to follow her everywhere she goes. She can’t help but always say or do something controversial.  Well now the most controversial trustee on the most controversial ISD in this freakin’ time zone just got a little more controversial.  Turns out El Paso’s El Bronco-version of Roger Stone - Carlos Sierra - is helping out with Mickey Loweree’s re-election campaign. (Please oh please Carlos, deny it so I can make you look like a lying pendejo again, not that you need a lot of help in that department).  The two allegedly worked together on open record requests to EPISD around this time last year when Sierra and Loweree and their tag team partner Trent Hatch were trying to help Dori Fenenbock in her bid for the congressional seat.  And now she’s trying to channel her inner Dori by claiming t...

Hatch'n A Plot...

Image
Let me tell you what my beef is with Hatch.  I can’t stand moral hypocrisy. It drives me crazy.  A short while ago I was contacted by Trent Hatch. Homie slid into my DM on Twitter like he was looking for some late night Grindr action but accidentally hit up a straight vato. Hey, they call me Big Sexy for a reason, you know what I’m sayin’? Point is, stick with me on this post because you are about to see the most blatant example of hypocrisy I can remember in a really in a long time.  So Hatch decides to hit my DM on twitter and bitch about what I’ve written about him. The conversation mainly was around the fact that he resented me calling him out on his support for the GOP and me referring to him as anti-immigrant (he is). My biggest takeaway from the conversation was that he was an arrogant white man who wasn’t used to brown people standing up to him. But it got me to thinking about his recent abrupt resignation.  You memmur when Dori Fenenbock was on EPISD? Rememb...

Hatch Has Ethical Issues To Deal With

Image
Former EPISD President Trent Hatch may have some tough ethical questions to answer in his near future, and quite frankly, I think there are some serious questions about the legal implications of his conduct now as well. As you may know Trent Hatch abruptly resigned the other night. At the time the information was conveyed to me, my sources had indicated that there may be some residency questions. Now the EPISD spokesperson said that as soon as Hatch found out he didn't live in the district, he resigned. Problem is, I don't think Gustavo Reveles Acosta was told all the facts. I don't think anyone told him that the reason Hatch found out he didn't live in the district is because AFT Union Boss Ross Moore had sent a letter to EPISD with documentation indicating as such. So lets be clear, this most certainly doesn't look like an instance were Hatch just suddenly realized of his own accord that he didn't live in the district and decided the ethical thing to do is to ...

Forma's Funeral

Image
I waited a while to write this post because I wanted the dust to settle and do some post-election analysis of numbers in the emergency election for HD 79 on the Eastside. That analysis points to one really obvious fact - Forma Group simply didn't get the job done. For all intents and purposes Dr. Noe was an incumbent. He had more name ID and more money than now-State Representative Art Fierro. Noe won his previous elections pretty handily. On paper, Noe should've been the obvious favorite to win that seat. The fact that he didn't, is a failure of Forma Group, not the candidate. I'll be the first to say that in a traditional race with plenty of time to organize and work a field operation, a candidate is the driving factor and winning or losing is more a function of the candidate than the consultant. For the most part. But when you have an election that was what, 5 or 6 weeks, you simply don't have the time necessary to conduct a normal field operation unless you spen...

Republican Felon Appears in Trump Wall Video

Image
Convicted felon and Republican anti-immigrant operative Anthony Aguero appeared in a video released by the Trump campaign that was centered about how a border wall would make El Paso safe. Trump has come under criticism from El Pasoans, and even El Paso's ONLY Republican elected official, Mayor Dee Margo, for lying about the security situation of El Paso. Trump alleged that we were one of the most dangerous and violent places to live in America. That is factually inaccurate. Have we had times of higher property crime rates than what we have now? Sure. But at no point in our history were we ever one of the most violent or dangerous places to live. That is just factually inaccurate. Or as we call it in El Paso, a flat-out lie. Which I guess makes it fitting to have Anthony Aguero featured in the video, because if there is ever anyone that is living a lie, its that guy. His real name is Pedro Antonio Aguero. He whitened up his name because he's ashamed of being brown. He's als...

Cassandra Hernandez - A Tale of Two Stories

Image
This is called a tale of two stories for a reason. One, she apparently told a news station her fiancé wasn't a lobbyist and then it later came out that we was a lobbyist. But its also given this title for another reason - two stations covering the same story told it completely different ways. Here is the story the way it was covered by KFOX . Now here is the story the way it was covered by KVIA . Lets give you some context. A while back I posted about the issue of documents that were leaked to the media about the City Manager's contract. That contract contained all the confidential information regarding the city managers pay and other free stuff. Those facts have been stipulated. They were not made public and someone leaked them to the media. If you know of one leak of confidential documents - then you know that the possibility exists that other documents were leaked or leaked to other persons. Now, if you've always hated the city manager or hate the city manager form of go...
