El Paso Community College Races

Okay you know Ol' LionStar is scraping the bottom of the barrel when he's writing about community college board races, but hey its a slow election season.

Don't worry, we'll get back to more of the fun stuff like that lengua larga Carlos Sierra who is running Mickey Loweree's race in due time...and trust me, that is going to be hilarious.

But hey speaking of Republicans, back to the EPCC races...

There are three races up for grabs in the the least consequential elected body in the county. There's a reason that you didn't even know there was a community college board until I wrote this post.

I had to actually look up who was the trustee that represents me and I'm the Mutha Fuckin' LionStar!

Turns out its Bonnie Najera - which is cool because she's a good patriotic American, which is to say she's a Redskins fan, so I therefore think she's a badass.

Anywho, there's the seat to replace State Representative Art Fierro, the seat that was vacated when Judge Selena Solis won her seat on the bench, and the seat currently occupied by Dr. Graham.

Don't try to make sense of EPCC seats because it will make your brain hurt. They make absolutely no sense but it is what it is.

In the seat to replace Judge Solis, the race is between two lawyers and a clown. Despite Christina Sanchez having the worlds worst color pallet on her signs, seriously its FUGLY, she's the strongest candidate in that field.

For those of you at home keeping score its not salmon, its corral. Which is the new orange. Which is the new black. Which is beautiful.

I think that is how it goes.

Anywho...

She and Frank Macias are both attorneys but I have questions about Macias being registered to vote at his law practice.

I mean maybe he lives there.

Maybe.

But his spouse is registered to vote somewhere else and in the aftermath of the Hatch address controversy, its just a little too radioactive right now.

And well, I'm pretty sure Nico Dominguez went to clown school.

Now if there is an interesting race in this cycle - and keep that in perspective because I'm actually wasting time writing about EPCC Trustees - its the eastside seat held by Dr. Graham.

Its really NOT that interesting but since no one gives a damn about EPCC trustee races, it probably seems like a bigger deal that it is. Anywho, Dr. Carmen Graham is facing a candidate name Linda Gonzalez - Hensgen. The most notable thing about Gonzalez-Hensgen is that she's endorsed by the Black Klansman himself, Ron Stallworth.

I stoled this from her FB page.

Another FUGLY logo, but the endorsement of someone who is all over the place on television and was at the Oscar's the other day, isn't the worst thing in the world.

But for shits and giggles I pulled the voting records of all the candidates. I mostly did that because of the Macias address issue, but I found something pretty interesting.

Here is the incumbent's voting record. As you can see Dr. Graham is a super-solid Democrat. She's voted HARD CORE Democrat for most of her recorded election life...

Whoops...except one election....

Turns out during the last presidential cycle, Dr. Graham appears to have suddenly flipped and voted Republican. Voting Republican in the Trump election cycle is a big deal. Now, I don't know who she voted for in the general election. But she flipped and voted Republican in that primary.

Here's the challenger's voting history...

Almost identical...

Except that Republican election that Dr. Graham participated in.

The other race - the one to replace State Rep Art Fierro is only interesting because Nina Piña is the candidate and here and her spouse own the Vista Markets. They had a chance to have a quality team behind them, but in a pretty typical move of campaign rookies who always think they are experts, she ended up going solo as far as I know. Her opponent is a Republican guy who has some kind of axe to grind against EPCC.

He's a former employee so he has some feria and people with an axe to grind are notoriously great campaigners, but I think he's a Republican and has no adult supervision in his campaign and will likely blow it.

But hey, it could always be worse.

They could be Josh Carter and be the guy who let a kid down and have the audacity to talk about being a mentor to kids.
