Hatch Has Ethical Issues To Deal With
Former EPISD President Trent Hatch may have some tough ethical questions to answer in his near future, and quite frankly, I think there are some serious questions about the legal implications of his conduct now as well.
As you may know Trent Hatch abruptly resigned the other night. At the time the information was conveyed to me, my sources had indicated that there may be some residency questions.
Now the EPISD spokesperson said that as soon as Hatch found out he didn't live in the district, he resigned.
Problem is, I don't think Gustavo Reveles Acosta was told all the facts. I don't think anyone told him that the reason Hatch found out he didn't live in the district is because AFT Union Boss Ross Moore had sent a letter to EPISD with documentation indicating as such.
So lets be clear, this most certainly doesn't look like an instance were Hatch just suddenly realized of his own accord that he didn't live in the district and decided the ethical thing to do is to come clean and resign.
It came to light because Moore raised the issue.
The fact that Hatch and his spouse listed the home outside the district as their homestead, and listed that address as their home address on multiple documents for several years, but each had a different voting address indicates to me that it was unlikely he was unaware of the situation.
Seriously?
I mean think about it, you have an election and your spouse goes to vote and doesn't see her husband's name on the ballot and it never comes up?
That is why I believe there is very good reason to believe that Hatch was aware he lived outside the district. Any reasonable person would come to that conclusion.
I think people should rightfully be questioning Hatch's personal ethics. When did he know he lived outside the district? Which his wife being registered at the Coronado area address and he at the Franklin address, then one has to wonder why he didn't resign until after the AFT union boss started snooping around.
Two other Hatch's switched their voting address to the Franklin address as well on Election Day 2015.
They are Republicans.
You know, the party that is always pointing the finger to others about election fraud.
Legal Implications
So the biggest questions are what, if any, are the legal implications at play here? The validity of actions taken by the board, when the Board President may not have ever lived in the district in the first place, are probably the first place to start. The people have a right to know just how long this has been an issue. His resignation is acknowledgement of his ineligibility to hold office.
Still think school board elections are irrelevant?
