The Campaign Logo Awards

Well since everyone is all giddy about award season, I thought I’d hand out some awards here on The Lion Star Blog.

I’m gonna give out awards for logos. Now the first thing you should know about these awards is that they are not commentary on the quality of the candidate. Some of the candidates I think are very qualified.

But holy Jesus their logos are fugly.

So lets start with the What in the Hell Were You Thinking Award?

This one goes to District 6 candidate (in the Franklin area) Gary Berglund. I feel like I should have put a warning label on this post because of this logo. What in the Bernie Sanders Socialist Rasputin hell is this logo about? I guess the black and white thing is to try to bite off the Beto thing. Then there’s the Bergland for Real thing. What in the hell does that even mean? But that beard thing…I’m just gonna say it because you’re looking at it and you’re thinking it…that space in his beard looks like a vagina from the 70’s - if you get what I mean.

Seriously people, who did this? Certainly not anyone with an ounce of political experience, and the irony is this guy is the teacher that ran the cool We Fill in the Blank debates at Coronado High School. They were consistently the best run forums of the debate season so you'd think this guy would be the most savvy. But that weird vagina thing just seems to follow you around when you look at it, no matter how many times you change your angle.

The next award is the Are You Stupid? Award

Remember a minute ago when I said that these awards are not commentary on the quality of the candidates? Well this one is because not only does he get an award for his logo, but he’s also a terrible candidate that should never have an office where he is required to actually work or keep his word to kids. But that is a separate blog post altogether.

Josh Carter is running for SISD Trustee in District 1. That is the Montwood area. As you can see from his low-rent Walt Disney knockoff font, his color scheme is that of Eastwood high school! If you know anything about sports rivalries in El Paso, particularly in that part of town, you know how stupid it was of him to do that.

Up next, we have the Ray Charles Award. This award is given to the campaign logo of a candidate who would have been better off letting Ray Charles pick their colors. Christina Sanchez is running for the El Paso Community College Board. She’s already on the board and basically running to keep her seat she was appointed to recently. Good candidate, but she was better off letting someone else pick colors for her signs. I thought it was salmon but its actually corral, light blue and purple. Its like someone had pastel crayons in their pocket and they somehow made it into the dryer and the result is well, this:

And finally the prestigious Capirotada Award. The lenten desert beloved by El Pasoans is basically a mix of a bunch of different things. So whenever I see something designed that looks like a bunch of stuff just thrown in together, whether they belong together or not, I call it capirotada. This is hands down the worst logo I’ve seen in years. Nina Piña is running for the EPCC seat previously held by State Representative Art Fierro.

Her logo has a picture, not a good quality one at that, is pixelated a madre, and has all kinds of information in it all at once. Its hard to tell if its a campaign logo or a piece of campaign lit. But no matter what it is, it sucks at both. Seriously, its the worst logo of the entire field, which is an accomplishment when you figure one looks like a vagina, one looks like it ripped off Walt Disney, and one looks like Bob Ross’ pallet after he’s painted a series of happy little trees.

This logo is a straight up mess.

Why she didn't just go with something green and yellow like - oh, I don't know... a freakin' pineapple, is beyond me! I mean when your last name is a fruit, go with it! Its an easy way for people to remember the name.

This lady is the right candidate for the position, but good lord she needs some professional help because this logo is awful.

NOTE: I may do an addendum to this list because there are a lot of candidates that don't have a campaign logo that I can find as of yet. Like for example, Mickey Loweree. So far she is trying to use the EPISD district logo from what I can tell, until someone reports her for it, or until Carlos Sierra comes up with a design for her.
