Loweree Courts Controversy...Again.
Mickey Loweree has been synonymous with one thing while she’s been a member of the EPISD Board of Trustees…controversy.
She was a controversial pick from day one and it just seems to follow her everywhere she goes. She can’t help but always say or do something controversial.
Well now the most controversial trustee on the most controversial ISD in this freakin’ time zone just got a little more controversial.
Turns out El Paso’s El Bronco-version of Roger Stone - Carlos Sierra - is helping out with Mickey Loweree’s re-election campaign. (Please oh please Carlos, deny it so I can make you look like a lying pendejo again, not that you need a lot of help in that department).
The two allegedly worked together on open record requests to EPISD around this time last year when Sierra and Loweree and their tag team partner Trent Hatch were trying to help Dori Fenenbock in her bid for the congressional seat.
And now she’s trying to channel her inner Dori by claiming to be supported by the teacher’s union from what I hear in union circles.
Sierra was famous for making a little “hit list” of people he wanted to rid from El Paso politics, which is funny because its more like a list of people who have slapped him around in election after election.
Sierra ran a seedy political action committee that has multiple violations that still have never been made right. Pretty much every thing the guy has touched has been a controversy and a failure.
Which is why the two teaming up on this election is the most Carlos Sierra thing I’ve seen since his last DUI mugshot.
I think you need an umpire’s clicker to keep up with them. But hey, far be it from me to criticize anyone’s drinking buddy.
My point is that the school board races will have more scrutiny in this election cycle perhaps to a degree that they never have before, and rightfully so. This is partially due to the people that are up for reelection and also partially due to the fact that EPISD is, as we say in the valley, a desmadre.
Seriously EPISD and their board are the example of what every other board in the county does NOT want to be. There’s an expression used - “lets not EPISD this up”. Most boards get along with one another and are controversy-free. In functioning boards members clash for legitimate reasons, like their respective football programs.
And there is going to be scrutiny in all the school board elections now, not only because EPISD is a desmadre but because there are no races on the ballot to overshadow them.
El Paso Community College has a few seats up and the balance of things on that board could really be changed.
Socorro, which used to be the County’s desmadre, is now a functioning board. They have one really crazy Trump nut on their board, but he’s about to get beat. They have two at-large seats and the district 1 (Montwood area) seat up for grabs. I’ll be doing in-depth pieces on all of the races, but the point is, most of the school boards are a rationale group of people.
But Loweree represents the epitome of why elections are important. She was hand-picked for that seat and has been non-stop controversy ever since.
So Loweree teaming up with Carlos Sierra is not at all a surprise, although its Hall of Fame stupid on her part. This is the guy behind an unreported robocall that was a downright evil and mean spirited attack on Dora Oaxaca’s disability.
I’ve got no love lost for Dora as you all know, but there are plenty of genuine and substantive reasons to attack her without having to attack her disability.
He was behind the weird Optimus Prime robocall he did along with Mike Armstrong when they attacked Veronica Escobar on her re-eleciton campaign for county judge.
And he was behind every single shady campaign activity during the congressional race, including not reporting expenditures and activities with his shady PAC.
I will say this though, Carlos Sierra teaming up with Mickey Loweree - and probably Forma Group if she ends up being funded by CREEED, is going to be the funniest thing in town since that time me and a few buddies saw a visibly pregnant stripper dressed as Santa Claus at the Cabaret several years ago.
In all seriousness, pay attention to school board races. They represent the largest portion of your tax bill. Their votes probably have the biggest impact on your family’s daily lives (along with city council). And the most important reason to pay attention to school board races - the public corruption scandal that plagued this community for a decade, started at school boards.
