In a shocking development former City Representative and owner of Sun Circle Strategic Group Eddie Holguin was abruptly ousted from his position as Chair of the Tejano Democrats last night over what a source indicates was the "appearance of a conflict of interest". The alleged appearance of a conflict of interest was the fact that he is chair or the organization but is part of campaigns for his clients that seek the endorsement of the Tejano Democrats, which according to the back-and-forth of the meeting, undermines the integrity of the organization's endorsement. His position as chair of the Tejano Democrats, his wife as Party Chair, and the fact that they business is literally down the hall from the Democratic Party HQ is part of the appeal to prospective clients. Well you should be. And its terrible that our area is the dumping ground for the state's sex offenders. A lot of people don't really know that, but its the truth. The state sends their sex offenders here to El Paso to transition from prison back into society. Its a facility commonly known as a "halfway house". If someone is a sex offender and soon to be released, guess where they are going? That should anger you. It says a lot about what Texas thinks about our community. Well you know who you should call to hold accountable? State Representative Mary Gonzalez. She represents the area and the Multi-Use Facility is a facility her purview because the corrections system in Texas is run by the state. Its not run by cities. Its not run by counties. Its run by the State of Texas. Counties have basically no zoning authority, so they are powerless to stop facilities like the MUF in the Horizon area. I could, and will, go over Elisa Tamayo's lack of experience and why its bad for El Paso in a later post, but for now I want to talk about something I noticed last night. A buddy of mine in the TDP told me that Tamayo tried to file for the HD 76 race in Austin. I just sort of chuckled upon hearing that. But while I was at community meeting last night I noticed that Tamayo's campaign guy had come in and dropped of law signs and campaign lit at the meeting. I guess he figured people would just be so excited about her that they would just take that stuff home. No one took a sign, which also made made me chuckle. But again, because of her lack of experience, she apparently doesn't know that you can't hand out partisan campaign materials at a city facility or event. The neighborhood association meeting was held at a city facility. Or she knew and just doesn't care about the rules. One or the other.

Alright this is the kind of stuff that just drives people crazy and it should. The County Judge pushed forward an expenditure that should infuriate everyone reading this post. We literally just had the damn budget season, where everyone on Commissioners' Court voted to raise taxes except Commissioner Perez and Judge Samaniego decides he wants to come back to the Court and ask for another $10,000 to build a float for the Sun Bowl Parade. $10,000! But the part that is just un-fucking-believable is the fact that Road and Bridge staff were used to build the float. I happen to know a lot of those vatos and they really do a great job. The reason its so screwed up that they were diverted from their regular work to build Samaniego's float is that they have a small staff and a lot of work to do. And guess what? It rained last night. Guess what that means? Flooding. Ask people who live in the County how they feel about less pump trucks out to alleviate the flooding because Samaniego want...

I don't think anyone could have ever predicted that he DA race would end up being pretty much a freak show, but it has and it has me thoroughly entertained. A while ago I asked rhetorically what ever happened to Yvonne Rosales? Well it turns out, she may have turned to the Dark Side. And by Dark Side, I mean she seems to be hanging around an Raza-hating, pocho-vendido, Trump supporting extremist Republican who supports Trumps and harasses immigrants...none other than Pedro Aguero...aka Conservative Anthony. I guess they are now BFF's. Seriously, what self-respecting Democrat would ever associate with a guy like Conservative Anthony? That guy has an anti-immigrant platform and has stalked and harassed immigrants, mostly women, for his internet videos. This is a Democratic Primary, not a general election. I mean, lets not forget that her former fiancé, who was on her campaign committee earlier this year, Roger "The Tree Shooter" Montoya is also a candidate for the same ...

So turns out both local political parties have some interesting races for their respective chairs coming up. First, last night was a pretty big shocker when Dora Oaxaca surprised everyone by announcing her candidacy for Chair of the El Paso County Democratic Party. No one saw that coming and you could tell by the stunned reaction from the regular party members. Obviously it goes without saying that Dora and I aren't exactly exchanging Christmas cards on a regular basis, and word on the street is her campaign treasurer is going to be Chente Quintanilla, who is also not on my Christmas card list. Oaxaca is going to have some haters and y'all know I've been very critical of Dora over the years. But let me put that all aside and give some brutally honest analysis of her candidacy. Javier Aaron Paz better start taking this race seriously because Dora is going to work her ass off. Again, while I have been very critical of Oaxaca over the years, I have faced Oaxaca in a few races ...

So a lot of people want to know how much Cassandra Hernandez' fiancé is making from the PD union to run the bond election that is happening today. You've no doubt received at least one mailer about it, which was sent citywide and was not inexpensive. You may have received a door tag from the bond if you live in District 3 because the two campaigns appear to be coordinating efforts. I wanted to see if either campaign filed that coordination correctly and there is no expenditure to the PD union on the Hernandez reports, either paid or in-kind. No dice. On her 30 day report she shows a contribution FROM the Municipal Police Officers' Association. I'm really sick of how the media treats Cassandra Hernandez special. Had any other candidate once been arrested for stealing panties - and I'm not making that up, Pantygate actually happened - and then arrested shortly there after, while an employee for the city, for assault, they'd be all over that candidate. The media allowed her to play the victim when she resigned her office by virtue of the fact that she made a public declaration that she was running for Mayor. It was something done of her own volition and rather than take responsibility for what she claims was unintentional, she blamed her staff. Now there is an ethics complaint against her and **SPOILER ALERT** its not Hernandez's fault again...this time she's shifting the blame to the City Clerk's office.
