Cassandra Hernandez & Ethics
I'm really sick of how the media treats Cassandra Hernandez special. Had any other candidate once been arrested for stealing panties - and I'm not making that up, Pantygate actually happened - and then arrested shortly there after, while an employee for the city, for assault, they'd be all over that candidate.
The media allowed her to play the victim when she resigned her office by virtue of the fact that she made a public declaration that she was running for Mayor. It was something done of her own volition and rather than take responsibility for what she claims was unintentional, she blamed her staff.
Now there is an ethics complaint against her and **SPOILER ALERT** its not Hernandez's fault again...this time she's shifting the blame to the City Clerk's office.

And that blame-game and thinking the rules don't apply to her is something that has plagued Hernandez since she was caught stealing from a department store all the way up to today.
The first time she was arrested she was caught stealing by loss prevention in a department store. According to the police report she went into a dressing room and attempted to steal a lot of items, mostly chones. Look, we've all done things we're not proud of.
When I was like 8 or 9, my late cousin Yvonne and I got caught snatching candies from the liquor store down the street.
But Hernandez was an adult. Its bad enough that she was shop lifting but let me just ask the rhetorical question you're all wondering.
WHO THE HELL STEALS CHONES???????
Here's the police report relating to Pantygate:
Now, we all love a good redemption story que no? So it would be one thing if it was an isolated incident but it isn't. Not long after, she got arrested for assaulting someone. The police report says she hit someone over the head with an object but they don't specify what the object was, but what the police report DOES indicate is interesting.
The assault happened on Cincinnati and Hernandez, according to the police report, came up from behind the victim and struck her on the side of her head with an unknown object. It wasn't a bar fight. It wasn't something they exchanged words about. It was a straight up attack from behind.
Talk all the crap you want about me and a couple of bullshit misdemeanors, but I've never been arrested for anything remotely violent.
She was already a city employee at the time these incidents happened.
And now we come to this latest ethics complaint filed against Hernandez. Again, she very clearly made a mistake. And again, she's blaming someone else.
Hernandez filed a final report, which basically closes your account. The story lays out clearly what the problem is with Hernandez's filing.
And yet again we are going to be fed the narrative that everyone is out to get her, that she's the victim, and that we should feel sorry for her.
But the reality is we have an elected official that thinks rules to apply to her, but very happily will dog pile on a fellow city rep who was arrested for domestic violence.
You'd think Cassandra, who was arrested for assaulting someone from behind, would be one of the people calling for due process.
Look, in the grand scheme of things making mistakes in filings is forgivable. In fact, it was probably an honest mistake. But its not the mistake that reveals Hernandez's character - its her unwillingness to take responsibility for anything and her perpetual desire to make herself the victim.

In a statement sent to ABC-7, "the complaint, public record, further states that the donations were illegal since 'Ms. Hernandez filed a final campaign finance report with the Texas Ethics Commission on January 16th, 2018' and never filed for a new campaign treasurer, effectively terminating her campaign treasurer and making any contributions to her campaign illegal."You can't collect or spend money on campaign activities without a treasurer on file. That is a simple rule that an incumbent city representative should be familiar with.
