Judicial Races 2022

Image
Its election season and the drama over maps is largely resolved. The biggest deal on the local scene this election cycle will be the legislative races.  Three of El Paso's delegation sold-out the rest of the Democrats, working class El Pasoans, and progressives over the summer allowing the Republicans to pass anti-Latino, anti-women, and anti-African-American voting bills in exchange to get nice and comfy safe seats.  Trust me - we will examine that a lot more closely later. For now - lets talk judicial seats. Unless your name is Marcos Lizarraga, if you're a male running for a judicial seat against a Latina, you can kiss your chances good-bye. Latinas are on a major roll running for elected office.  Judge Marcos Lizarraga always seems to win no matter how hard his opponents come after him and no matter how much they spend.  But basically every other male judge in town should be looking over their shoulders because, well, they are facing a steep climb.  The JP c...

Republican Congressional Candidate Campaigns with Indicted AG

Image
The local GOP's congressional candidates are always one big joke. Its almost like they go out of their way to find the weirdest, most eccentric, craziest, most controversial, or most extreme candidate they can possibly find and make them their party's nominee.  Well, Irene "La Mentirosa" Armendariz Jackson is yet again running to earn the right to get beat by Congresswoman Escobar again in November 2022.  Well when I saw an invitation from Irene  Armendariz  Jackson for a fundraiser at Grace Gardens, I was so surprised to see the guest speaker that I thought it was a friend of mine having fun with MS Pic Art circa Windows 2000.  Because I thought, no candidate would be stupid enough to have this guy as the main speaker. But yet again, the El Paso GOP surpasses the level of stupidity I give them credit for.  Yes ladies and gentlemen, Irene  Armendariz  Jackson has an indicted elected official as her big campaign draw.  Yes ladies and gentleme...

The Mayor, Cassandra Hernandez, Lucia Najera, Yeehawdists, and Capirotada

Image
This was meant to be several different posts but I've been busy and thought it best to trust truncate the posts into one post, so be prepared for political capirotada.  First, lets start with some comments from Mayor Leeser that I think need to be called out. A while back during the budget talks at the city, Mayor Leeser got into a dust-up with City Rep Cassandra Hernandez. Leeser is apparently pretty self-conscious about not having a college degree and during a back-and-forth with Rep Hernandez, he basically said she needed to check her privilege because she has an education from a fancy school.  It takes A LOT for me to defend someone like City Rep Cassandra Hernandez. I don't care much for political grandstanders and she's in the Hall of Fame of grandstanders here in the local political scene. Hell making August 3 all about her at a community meeting shortly after was just one example of the stuff she does that I find annoying.  But for a wealthy white man to tell a Ch...

Call Qaida

Image
The Ding Dongs are still trying to be relevant and quite frankly the ONLY reason that the anti-masker / anti-vaxer crazies are even given a platform is because EPISD Trustee Daniel Call lacks the backbone to tell that very small but vocal group to act with decorum.  All because of personal friendship with the Head Karen of the Westside, Kendal Jessup.  And make no mistake about it - there is no greater threat to public health to the average El Pasoan than the members of Call Qaida.  I'll be a honest with you all, I'm even more heated about these anti-masker/anti-vaxers because my kid ended up with COVID because she was sent back to class and has to sit in the same classrooms as students who's parents are the crazies.  You guys read this blog because I tell it like it is - so here is the truth about Daniel Call. He killed a once-bright political career by aligning himself with the Ding Dongs. He will never be elected to anything again. He will never rise above his cur...

Joe Pickett's Pick?

Image
I don't know who is running former State Rep Joe Pickett's run for city council, but judging by the logo they came up for the rebirth of his potential political career - he should fire them like, yesterday!  As a matter of whether or not someone is going to win an election, the logo matters very little. Especially for a guy like Joe Pickett who has strong name ID among the older voters of the Eastside. But it does say a lot about the decision-making of this campaign team that actually presented this to him with a straight face at some point.  But for an elected official who has had such a long and noteworthy career, you'd think he'd pick a political team that would at least have some sense packaging an established leader like Pickett.  The man was once chairman of one of the most powerful and influential committees in the Texas legislature and his campaign design team came up with.... Fucking sparkles.  Are you kidding me? They came up with a logo that makes it look ...

DA Rosales & The Sticky-Icky

Image
Full disclosure - I'm not a marijuano (pot head for the bilingually impaired) and never have been. Just not my thing.   But I do enjoy Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson, so I guess that counts for something. And who doesn't like Rick James' classic, Mary Jane? I basically don't care if someone smokes weed any more than I care what kind of alcohol they drink. It just isn't that important to me - although I do look at people who put pineapple on pizza like someone dropped them on their head when they were a child.  I know it doesn't make sense to other people, but as long as I don't have to smell a stoner, me importa que sean Marijuanos. But I do have a big problem with government entities even implying a threat to journalists for their reporting.  I know, some of you are scratching your head right now, so let me bring you up to speed. Earlier today I was scrolling through Facebook and I came across an interesting post from Aaron Montes.  It is a garden-variety med...

Ding Dongs Mask Mania Aimed at Trustee

Image
By now you've all heard that an EPISD Trustees home was vandalized shortly after voting in favor of the mask mandate at EPISD. He had also received comments that any rational person would see as a threat by members of the Ring the Bells Facebook group, administered by one of its founders, Kendall Jessup.  Kendall Jessup and her BFF Bethany Hatch along with several other members of the group, participated in Insurrection Day on January 6th. They say they weren't part of any violence and didn't breech the capitol.  We believe you.  Anywho - for those of you keeping track at home that group is so far responsible for losing every election they tried to be a part of, the end of one trustee's political career, and in my opinion, quite possibly the vandalism of the trustee's home.  Calm down Karen - before you threaten to sue me - I'm allowed to express an opinion, even if you don't like it. You don't scare me. (Stick around for the end of a political career. Y...
