Two City Reps Flip-Flop On Budget

Image
In some of the most blatant acts of political tomfuckery, two city council reps tried to vote against a tax increase after they voted for it.  City Reps Isabel Salcido and Claudia Rodriguez surrendered whatever spine they may have had in a purely political move designed to try to make them look good shortly after they announced their candidacy for reelection.  If their opponents are worth a damn - which they aren't - they'd be getting the flip-flop political opportunism mailer to the printer right around first thing in the morning.  Let me break down why its such political cowardice on their part. Actually, lets start with an important question - who was the dumbass that thought this was a good idea? The reality is they knew they were the only two members of council that were going to do this. They knew no one else was going to vote to support the current budget the entire way and then at the last minute flip on the budget.  So it wasn't a genuine effort to change th...

Caballero Defends Yvonne Rosales

Image
Okay, I'm just gonna rip the band aide off here. This is a still image from an interview with Theresa Caballero on KVIA. This is what happens when lawyers cosplay after binging Marvel series' on Disney Plus.  Don't get mad at me - you thought the same thing when you saw the story. And I'm not the one who took her to Sally's Beauty to buy that green(ish) dye she's rocking for TV lately.  Anywho, I don't see why there was a news story that appears to be solely for the sake of providing a platform for a lawyer to speak in favor of Rosales. I mean what is the news angle? She's was a campaign supporter of Rosales. Seriously, what is the journalistic interest in this story. I just don't get it.  But it wouldn't at all surprise me if Caballero became Rosales attorney in the case. TC loves attention and a platform so she'd likely jump at an opportunity to use the case as a chance to put forth every crackpot conspiracy theory she can come up with.  An...

Rosales & Respect for Workers

Image
There are definitely no supply-chain issues when it comes to the number of excuses that fly out of the District Attorney's Office when they have their almost weekly bad news stories lately.  There are so many excuses it would make a classroom of irresponsible third graders blush about why they didn't do their home work.  My dog ate my indictment. I couldn't bring the case to trial because La Llorona stole my case files. I couldn't come to court because I caught piojos and the judge said I couldn't be next to the other lawyers until my hair was clean. The latest negative press Rosales has had to deal with is the number of cases that have had to be dismissed because he office hasn't moved on them. Rosales has a slew of excuses as to why these cases are just sitting there and not being charged but most of the excuses are - to use legal parlance - absolute bullshit.  And by a slew I mean hundreds of cases.  Its not a funding issue.  Personnel is the reason - but tha...

Yet Another Rosales Firing Controversy

Image
I was planning on posting a different piece today about Rosales. It was about her endless excuses for everything and how nothing is ever her fault.  Classic la toxica trait.  The context was the dismissal of more than a hundred cases. But today's news can't go undiscussed.  But trust me, I'll circle back to it because its an important conversation. For now lets talk about the fact that District Attorney Yvonne Rosales fired John Briggs, a senior trial lawyer and the only one in her office with any death penalty experience.  Wrap your head around that for a minute. The family law lawyer that had never tried a felony before becoming the County's Chief Prosecutor fired the only attorney left in her office with experience trying death penalty cases while we an alleged mass murder sitting in county jail awaiting trial. So is this a sign that she's no longer going to pursue the death penalty? Her staffing moves have left so many people in the legal community completely st...

Jeremy Jordan & Consulting Conflicts

Image
There's a climate change petition going around that might end up getting enough signatures to get on the ballot. While I agree with it in principle, I mean who doesn't want government at any level to address very obvious climate change issues affecting the plant, but I didn't sign the petition because I had a question about the language and a particular provision having to do with the fact that money apparently needs to be filtered through this new bureaucracy that appears to be part of the initiative.  I tried to get someone to give me some clarity on the issue and I was ignored, so I didn't sign the petition. But thats neither here nor there.  The utilities aren't in support of the effort and will likely hire a consultant to fight the initiative if they are successful in collecting enough signatures.  Jeremy Jordan is running around town telling folks that he's got the gig.  Word around the water coolers downtown is that there is no way in hell he's going ...

Lupe Giner is a Republican, Not an Independent

Image
No one would blame you if you read the headline and said, who the hell is Luper Giner? She's technically running as an independent candidate, but make no mistake, Giner is a Republican candidate running for El Paso County Judge against the incumbent Judge Ricardo Samaniego, a Democrat.  Not to sound like a broken record but in El Paso, Republicans simply aren't viable for countywide races. El Pasoans have rejected their agenda for years and there has been very little movement in the number of Republicans in El Paso over the years.  But to hear the local GOP tell it, they like to say that "El Pasoans are Republicans, they just don't know it." Which sounds a lot like they are saying El Pasoans are stupid. Which, I guess would be true if they were in fact Republicans.  But I digress.  Sign number one that Giner isn't a viable candidate is the fact that she ran as an "independent" and not as a Republican. You see if she ran as a Republican, she'd be ...

Who Wrote the Walmart Shooting Family Member Mystery Email?

Image
If you haven't seen this story that aired on KTSM recently, it is all the hub-bub in the El Paso County Courthouse these days.  The gist of the story is that a prominent El Paso attorney named Amanda Enriquez made comments to the media relating to the August 3rd Walmart Shooting case. The following day an email was sent to pretty much everyone in the media allegedly from Alexander Hoffman Valdez, a German national that was a victim of the shooting.  The email sent red flags because of the tone of the email, the substance of the email, and the command of the English language of a German national that lives in Juarez.  So lets just pull over real quick before we get too far down the road to discuss a quick couple of things. First - is it possible that a German national that lives in Juarez has flawless English?  Sure it is.  But put a pin in that, I'll get back to that in a moment.  Second is the fact that the letter is as the younglings say these days, a li...
