Another Day, Another DA Office Problem

Good Lord this is becoming completely unbelievable at this point. The DA's office now appears to have yet another problem on their hands.

And I'm not talking about a minor problem - I'm talking about a potentially really bad situation.

The DA has been having Doug Tiemann serve as the Chief of the Intake and Screening Unit. Basically its his job to unfuck the case backlog mess.

He may have been the guy in charge of the donuts for the Saturday Screen Party in the DA's Office a few weeks back.

Anywho, the DA has this guy in charge of that unit and he has to deal with all the cases that have been dismissed lately because of issues in the DA's Office.

Well, it looks like he had an administrative suspension on his license to practice law recently. And by recently, I mean as late as last Saturday.

Don't believe me?

Well here's the screenshot. (There's always a screenshot, que no?)

Why is that bad?

Well because he was in court trying to re-file cases as recently as September 1st and 2. I'm no lawyer, but I imagine is probably a problem is someone is in court trying to re-file charges against people without a law license. Although, its unclear when exactly Tiemann's law license was no longer valid.

But if it was invalid as of those last two court appearances, it probably raises the question about the validity of those cases that were filed.

What are the consequences of this situation if he was in fact, practicing law while he was ineligible to do so?

This underscores something no one is really talking about - the beef between her office and PD. The El Paso Police Department is saying that they are presenting cases to the DA at basically the same rate they always have. The DA's Office apparently says different.

The reality is that Rosales' office doesn't have people that want to work for her so that is why they are having weekend donut parties.

If you're wondering what exactly is an administrative suspension, I checked around and talked to some lawyers to find out about that situation. What they told me was that it was probably suspended for either not paying fees or not talking required CLE's.

So the guy in charge of fixing Rosales' mess apparently isn't paying enough attention to detail to his own license to maintain it?

I mean lets be real, many people would say incompetence is not being able to do even the simple tasks, you know, like making sure you have a law license before you practice in court.

And before any of you start saying that its an "honest mistake", I just want to remind you all that EVERY YEAR lawyers get a letter in April reminding them they have to pay their fees by June.

Every year.

And lawyers are also notified when they didn't pay the fees. And again when its suspended. And they are given a grace period to take care of it. Seriously, this shouldn't happen to someone who is trusted to run a department in the DA's office.

This is indicative of systemic problems in the DA's office. And that falls 100% on the leadership of that office.

At what point to we all collective acknowledge that Rosales has failed as a District Attorney? How much worse does it have to get?
