Leeser's Anti-Women Vote; TDP Boss Rescinds Endorsement

In a very controversial session of El Paso City Council recently, El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser cast the deciding vote against an effort to de-prioritize the investigations of women having abortions.

Cutting through all the BS - Leeser voted with the Republicans.

This is pretty ironic considering his political consulting firm, now re-branded to "Politico Consulting" that now includes Martin Paredes, was former city reps Eddie Holguin and Lily Limón, both prominent members of the El Paso County Democratic Party. The duo run the Paso Del Norte chapter of the Tejano Democrats.

A woman's right to choose is a core plank in the Democratic Party Platform. For the most part, the El Paso County Democratic Party stays out of non-partisan races. But when Leeser was running for a second term for mayor, Holguin and Limón went around the local party - who had specifically voted to not endorse in the non-partisan race (primarily because both candidates had Republican voting records)  - and used inside connections at the Texas Democratic Party to circumvent the local party and secure an endorsement for Leeser.

I was critical of that tranza at the time and I was clearly right.

I knew that when the chips were down, he wouldn't advocate for the beliefs of the Party. But not only did he not advocate for them - he went against them.

Holguin and Limón are responsible for that and no one in the Party should forget that. They should be held accountable.

In fact, the El Paso Democratic Party needs to hold our elected officials accountable when they do stuff like that. The three members of the Delegation that sold out to the GOP - we should've held them accountable for that. No one fears crossing the Party when the chips are down because there is no consequence to doing so.

But back to Leeser....

His consultants engineered the end-around the local party to get the endorsement from the TDP and as a result of Leeser's vote Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa sent a letter to Leeser rescinding his endorsement of Leeser.

Now is the time to really pay attention to the values of candidates because the effort to slowly take away rights is just starting. You think the GOP was extreme when three Democratic members of our delegation sold-out to them last session? Just wait until you see what they do this session - they are going to make it harder to vote, they will undermine public education, they will do absolutely what ever they can get away with.

And they will make a push to get into school boards and city council seats. We already have two on city council and there are more running.

Including one that thinks she's a Jedi.

But that is a post for another day...
