El Paso GOP Lawsuit Follow-up

The El Paso GOP are eating each other alive again.

The El Paso GOP has been quite the clown car for the last few year because well, in my opinion, one guy - Rick Seeberger. He was a subpar (which says a lot in El Paso GOP circles) as a candidate when he ran for congress because of his many, many, documented financial woes.

He blamed his loss on the El Paso GOP.

It wasn't the Party's fault.

He was a flawed candidate that had no chance of winning - even under the best of circumstances because El Paso is not a conservative city. His loss had so much more to do with the GOP brand, being a white guy, having positions (like all Republicans) that are out-of-step with El Pasoans, and of course, his terrible background.

You've seen this story before, Republicans don't take losing well. Its never their fault. There is always some conspiracy afoot in their minds.

So Seeberger (who probably has no idea that his name is now political shorthand for a shitty candidate with a terrible background) decided to try to take over the El Paso GOP. And he was successful and that led to a series of events that was extremely entertaining for me as the "Arch Duke of Democrats" (a term my late friend Becky Hermosillo - a longtime Republican leader - gave me that I wear as a badge of honor for so many reasons, not least of which was because it came from such a great lady and friend) because it was a lot of fun to write about. But for rank-and-file Republicans, it was a complete desmadre

I don't know if this is universal or just more of an El Paso thing, but both Parties have a group of people that are value-based Party-loyalists who are workers bees. They are around for years and do the day-to-day stuff that keeps the Parties functional. Both Parties also have a group of folks that are more extreme in their views, frequently far more vocal, but don't always "put in the work". Each Party sort of has to wait out the more extreme element to see if they are going to settle in and do work, or if they are flash in the pan and end up going away.

Well that was dialed up to 12 in the El Paso GOP during the Seeberger regime. The extremists in the Party took over. They liked to make scenes at meetings but they were never caught dead doing actual work for the El Paso GOP. That wasn't their agenda and nor did it appear to be Seeberger's. It was more about attention and personalities. I mean, don't get me wrong, I fucking loved watching them stick knives in their backs.

But some serious shit went down.

After lots of political maneuvering Seeberger tried what many people in the El Paso GOP told me they view as a shady maneuver to incorporate the El Paso GOP as a way for him to control the assets of the Party even if he was booted out. And trust me, from what GOP Party insiders tell me, the guy made off with a bunch of stuff from the GOP office. Apparently that stuff ended up in some storage unit somewhere. Still looking into that one because there's an interesting connection if what I hear is correct.

Now I don't know how much money they had when he took over and made that switch to the El Paso GOP, inc, but according to documents I acquired - it appears that their account is now down to a couple hundred dollars.

So here's an email from Rick Seeberger to his merry band of GOP, Inc comrades about a settlement they are trying to come to with the El Paso Republican Party.

I was also able to obtain a copy of the 10 point agreement. Most of it is pretty unimportant but the first three points are the ones of interest. Seeberger's GOP inc group has to turn over the money and possessions they have. If all they have is a couple hundred bucks in their account - no wonder they are a joke. If there was more and that is all that left - then I think a lot of rank-and-file EP GOPers are going to have some questions. I'm wondering if there is a storage facility bill and if Seeberger is going to stick the El Paso County Republican Party with the bill.

But the most interesting is that Seeberger and the officers have to resign their positions from EP GOP, inc. I don't know what the impact of that is though. As I read the agreement, it doesn't prevent the officers from turning around and running again, nor does it dissolve the organization.

The bigger point is why does the entity exist? Is it a movida to hide campaign finances? Is it a platform for Seeberger to try to remain relevant?

Either way this is the exact wrong time for the already politically insignificant local Party to be infighting. They have a County Commissioner and Congressional race in November in which they will be embarrassed. At the very least it should be all hands on deck to avoid an embarrassment.

But it won't be because the County Commissioner primary race feathers a Republican who was going to run as a Democrat and then changed her mind - versus a Seeberger acolyte with a series of financial issues of his own, David Adams. If you noticed before - he's on the email.

As you may recall there are allegations of financial wrong-doing by a local charity for sick children.

Seriously what is it with Seeberger and Adams. Once allegedly cheated a PTA and the other allegedly took funds from a charity for sick kids.

So much for the Party of Personal Responsibility, Morals, and Rule of Law...

Stay tuned because I'll have more on that later as the race approaches.
