Democratic Party Candidate Offering Cash for Votes?
Well - its true what they say - you can't spell DUMB without DMB.
El Paso Democratic challenger for the 16th Congressional District DMB - Delirious Montañez-Berrios just did the political version of cartoon characters stepping on a rake.
Over the years I have seen some really boneheaded political moves and efforts to get votes from the community.
I mean Dori Fenenbock holding a menudazo in the valley - that one alone is hilarious cuz you know, wonder bread meets bollio. And remember when Chente Quintanilla was holding pachangas in the valley where they gave out booze, bikes and cold hard cash to voters?
But this takes things to a whole other level. Read what she posted:
§597. Expenditures to influence voting
Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and
Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote or the withholding of his vote—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.
You can find the federal code, by clicking this link.
She literally offered $200 for going to go vote. That seems to be a pretty clear-cut violation.
This is the part where she says that I'm lying and that "God is in control".
More Problems
Turns out DMB has several compliance issues. I noticed this fun one today.
Here's a picture of her with the El Paso Young Democrats.
But if you look closer, you'll see something pretty funny. DMB spends a lot of her time talking about her "team" and even introduced me to one of them. Well apparently no one on her team caught this but, her signs are all out of compliance with election code.
If you look very closely - like this:
I'll need a better picture, but the part I put in the yellow outline is actually a disclaimer someone apparently decided to cut and paste from another campaign. Problem is, its a disclaimer for a judicial candidate - which is different than one seeking federal office.
But - she's also out of compliance with all of her signs because they are missing the required TxDOT disclaimer.
Thats gonna be an expensive problem to fix. She must be killing it with campaign donations to afford to pay people $200 to vote and pay to get her signs in compliance!
