The Congressional Race

I'm doing this first non-judicial race analysis because honestly, its the easiest one to do. Technically its a race, but seriously - just technically.

Incumbent Congresswoman Veronica Escobar drew an opponent in the Democratic Primary. Her name is Deliris Montanez but appears to also be going by the initials DMB as part of her campaign. Its super strange and I don't understand what she's trying to accomplish by doing so.

I'm sure she's a really nice person. She's a veteran and some sort of whistle blower. She's never run for anything before and that is pretty obvious. Her social media appears to be the main way she's trying to connect with voters - although she's using a Facebook group instead of a public Facebook page. I haven't seen much about policies that she advocates for or has a different opinion about than Escobar. She seems to be pretty religious but no information currently available about her that distinguishes her from Escobar.

And I know what you're thinking - no, I am not making it up, her name is in fact Deliris. And yes, I know it looks like delirious. And yes, she's delirious if she thinks she's gonna win.

I didn't start this blog with that because, well, it was just too easy.

But seriously, she has no money, no name ID, no base of support, no campaign structure, no message, no platform, and no experience in politics. And she's not doing anything to distinguish herself from Escobar or give them a reason to vote for her over Escobar. She's not a serious candidate.

The Republican Candidates

Speaking of people who aren't serious candidates, I guess now is a good time to talk about the Republicans running for congress. As usual its a clown car of candidates running for the GOP nomination and per the norm, not a single one of them is a serious candidate.

For those of you that don't know, there is pretty much no more of the rational "country club" rRepublicans in the local GOP. Its just a collection of nuts that see to get more and more extreme every election cycle. The good people seem to have been run off or at the very least minimized to the point of irrelevance.

This started with the rise of the Libertarians in the local GOP in 2010 and has been weaponized to nuclear-grade extremism. The Republicans have contracted so much in El Paso County that despite gains everywhere else, the El Paso GOP's influence (and numbers) have been contracting. There are no Republican elected officials in El Paso County in partisan offices. The only ones in office now are in non-partisan races like city council and school boards. That is a strategic effort on their part by the way - and arguably the only thing the can really do to expand their influence anyway.

But there are always a few that think they can somehow be the miracle candidate that could somehow win a congressional race in El Paso - and then have the audacity to bitch about it when even their own national party doesn't take them seriously enough to spend money on their campaigns.

Irene Armendariz Jackson and Sam Williams are perennial candidates that have both been destroyed by Escobar in previous bids and still haven't learned their lesson. The strategy of the local GOP candidates is similar to most GOP congressional candidates nationwide - its a race to the bottom to see who can kiss Donald Trump's ass the most. There is virtually no difference between Irene Jackson and Sam Williams in terms of policy. They are exactly the same - the pandemic is fake news, but if it was real Trump should get credit for how it was handled, there was no insurrection and the people on January 6 were patriots. Seriously, there's no difference. They aren't even Crazy and Diet Crazy.

Although, I will say this. La Mentirosa's (Jackson's nickname) husband apparently retired from his government job rather than comply with a vaccine mandate. Seriously, that happened. God only knows what those snowflakes would've done in World War II when citizens were asked to make shared sacrifices for the good of the nation. I figure they'd be the type to ignore rations and screw over their neighbors cuz 'Mericuh!

They are both just your garden variety extremists that offer nothing to voters except regurgitated Trump campaign lines. Neither of them have an independent policy idea of their own.

One of them has to actually win a primary, which will likely be Irene "La Mentirosa" Jackson. Not that she should or deserves to, but she will.

And then she'll get crushed in the November general election. In fact, I think she'll lose by a bigger margin than she did before, even though last time was a presidential cycle. Why? Well I'm glad you asked. I think it will be because of two factors. One, Beto will turn people out. They don't think he has a chance in hell, but it doesn't matter, he turns out Democrats. And two - you can't spend two years undermining the election process and not expect it to have an impact on your base. By the time that election comes around they will have spent the better part of two years claiming that the election was rigged, so a large portion of their electorate aren't going to come out to vote because of them pushing the Big Lie.

Thats what happens when you tell people their vote didn't matter just because you can't handle the fact that your candidate lost.
