Potpourri: Norma and Quick Finance Report Notes

As I mentioned last week former State Rep Norma Chavez is going to challenge incumbent Democratic State Rep Lina Ortega as an independent.

I had a few people reach out asking about the process and I figure I should lay it all out for you because there's a funny scenario.

She has to collect 500 signatures in like a month and a half or so and they have to be registered voters who didn't vote in either primary. Thats tedious but far from impossible.

But - it also means that Chavez can't vote in a primary. That means if she wants her family to sign it, they can't vote in a primary either.

Trust me, part of me wanted to stay quiet about that and just wait to see if she voted in the primary but I actually will find it entertaining to watch her run as an independent.

Finance Reports

I'm going through the finance reports and I'm no where near done. But I took a peak at a few of them and I'll be coming through with a more in-depth blog about the finance reports.

But for now, some interesting things I've come across so far.

1. Art Fierro has two interesting things on his report and I'll go more in depth on the rest of his report later but the most interesting things so far is that he got a contribution from Dori Fenenbock. She is a former EPISD Trustee that ran against Congresswoman Escobar. You memmur, the white lady that pulled political brown face and hosted a "Menudazo" in the valley.

As you know she was involved in a business situation that ultimately led to the departure of embattled Superintendent Juan Cabrera.

Also a contribution from Jose Fong. He owns a gentleman's establishment. Art also has a campaign sign on another gentleman's establishment. Pretty sure thats gonna go over real well at the ol' League of Women's Voters.

2. County Commissioner's Reports. Carl Robinson's report...uh...wth? It looks like he did it himself and it doesn't appear to be complete. Carlos Soto, who is running for Precinct 2 against Commissioner Stout. No one has ever heard of the guy before he ran, kind of like Deliris Montanez Berrios, except that vato has no voting history. Like ever. I'm not even sure he actually knows how to vote for himself. Somehow the guy who has never voted wants to convince the electorate he should be in charge. I know, ay ay. Anywho, that dude apparently just straight up lied on his report. He put up a bunch of zero's on his report. He allegedly raised nothing and spent nothing. At a minimum, he paid money to file to be on the ballot. But he's got signs donde quiera. That shit wasn't free.

3. The judicial races...Wow, I'm not gonna even get started on that one. But strap in, some seriously troubling shit is going down on one of the judicial candidates. You're not gonna wanna miss that one...
