Sissy Byrd to Challenge Carl Robinson for County Seat

Dorothy "Sissy" Byrd will challenge Carl Robinson for his precinct 4 seat on the County Commissioner's Court.

It is unlikely that she will be the only person taking on Robinson. There are all kinds of folks expressing interest in taking on Robinson, not just because of his age and fragility, but because he hasn't been a productive Commissioner.

They smell blood in the water.

Eddie Holguin holds a major amount of influence over Robinson from the shadows. In fact Holguin spent the first 6 months of Robinson's time in office covering for the fact that he almost never showed up to County meetings. His car was parked at the county to make it look like he was there and working but at one point it literally had spider webs growing on it.

Its actually unclear if Carl Robinson is actually going to seek reelection given his age and health. But if he does - and Eddie's involved - expect it to get NASTY.

Byrd has a support base to work with. Though she just came off of a loss in the City Council seat in the northeast, she did surprisingly well and has built a base to work with. Byrd is active in the El Paso County Democratic Party and the Black El Paso Democrats.

Expect candidates to start making their campaign announcements in late July for the March 2022 Democratic Primary. The Republicans will likely field a challenger since the seat covers parts of the Northeast and Westside - the only areas of town where Republicans have a presence.

The demographics aren't on the GOP's side anymore but if the GOP fields a credible and strong candidate - and not one of their many nutball weirdo candidates, it could be an interesting general election depending on who emerges from the Democratic Primary.

This one will be fun to watch.
