The GOP, Racism, & the Future
But that effort didn't last long. They ditched the effort to attract new people fairly quickly, which is why you always see shots of the same few token minorities that show up to their conventions. They are pretty bold about things now, and they went in the opposite direction. Now they actually have white nationalists, confederates, overt racists, and covens of gringas calling themselves "Border Blondes" making up their leadership. There was actually a time that the GOP made an effort to keep their weird fucking uncles hidden in the basement in an effort to hide their crazy.
Now, the inmates are running the asylum.
Rather than try to expand their base, appeal to more communities and be more inclusive, they have basically said screw it - lets embrace white nationalism, the KKK, and racism without shame, and push legislatures to restrict as many people that are darker than a white onion from voting as possible.
Don't get me wrong, they'll probably roll out their tokens like Candace Owens and Chingo Bling to try to pretend they aren't the Grand Aryan Party, but at the end of the day the modern Republican Party has fully embraced all the worst parts of America.
What is worse about the GOP is the fact that their newest tactic is probably going to be the strategy that ultimately buries them. They have finally come to the realization that the more people vote - the more Americans that lawfully participate in the election process - the more likely the Republicans are to lose.
It used to be the Republicans just did everything they could to block more people from participating in the voting process. They'd stop things like motor-voter efforts and pretty much any other effort to make it easier for people to register to vote and participate in the election process.
And sabes que? That is pretty damn unpatriotic to stop Americans for participating in a process outlined in the constitution, especially for a party that tries to simultaneously co-opt the American flag and participate in an insurrection at the capitol.
But check the headlines across the country - the GOP is now actively trying to make it more difficult for Americans to lawfully afford themselves of the rights enshrined in the constitution.
The reality is Republicans didn't like the fact that they didn't win the game. Rather than get better at winning elections, coming up with better ideas, cleaning up the filth of their party, or chasing off the racists and bigots in their party, they'd rather just go back and change the rules in their favor.
And any party that has to keep more Americans from lawfully participating in their constitutionally protected right to vote because they fear the electorate, doesn't deserve the support of the electorate.
