The GOP Clown Show on Monday
Its been amazingly quiet and calm on the Democratic side in local politics. Admittedly that could be a function of the fact that we haven't all been in the same room with one another since the start of the pandemic and meetings have been via zoom - but normally all the dram and infighting is on the Democratic Party side.
Other than the Democratic Party SDEC Committee man going on a cursing tirade during a meeting with a bunch of older women - about a woman to top it off - its been pretty boring in the huddle of Team Blue.
But the Republican Party here in El Paso has been an absolute shit show since Chairman-former chairman-now Chairman again (?) Seeberger took office. He's been controversial from day one because he sort of dropped into the El Paso GOP seemingly out of nowhere when he pretty much got chased out of Doña Ana County. And then he suddenly decided he wanted to run for congress.
That bothered a lot of long-time Republicans who have been involved in the EP GOP Party for years. Predictably he was destroyed in the general election. Then he and a few others created a consulting firm and took credit for electing City Rep Claudia Rodriguez and then he ran for Party Chair.
He has a very controversial financial record hanging over his head - which is a bigger issue considering the GOP is allegedly fiscally responsible. They aren't. But thats what they tell everyone. He owed some money to a PTO of a school, has a few bankruptcy and then had some issues at Doña Ana County.
Well the Precinct Chairs - which make up the backbone of any political party, don't appear to go along with Seeberger's vision. That bothered him to the point that he recently quit as the GOP chair. Then he changed his mind.
And that is where things are gonna get interesting. Turns out that according to the Republican Party of Texas, there is no ability for a resigned chair to rescind their resignation. In other words, no take-backsies.
The RPT - the Republican equivalent of the TDP - then called a meeting for February 1st so that a new chair can be elected by the precinct chairs.
Seeberger tried to cancel that meeting. He doesn't have the power to, so that meeting will go on.
And the best part of it all - is that all of this is open to the public! The GOP is really airing their dirty laundry and showing that not only are they an incredibly small minority of the electorate, but also that they are 100% dysfunctional as a party.
In order to make any reasonable amount of progress in things as basic as turnout and registration - they have to be - at a minimum, organized.
The GOP hold no partisan political offices in town. None at all. They have no realistic chance at gaining any seats in the near future but their best measurable results are to increase their turnout and try to make new Republicans to position themselves for something further down the road.
Ironically Seeberger was super annoyed that the old regime created what basically amounts to an auxiliary of the GOP called the El Paso Republican Alliance because he felt it undermined him and his control of the GOP. It would not surprise anyone if Seeberger turned around and did the same thing.
I wouldn't want you all to think that Seeberger doesn't still have a few supporters within the GOP. While several of his former supporters appear to have soured on his leadership, there are some that are calling for all the "patriots" (ironic coming from the same party that was involved in an insurrection less than a month ago) to show up to the meeting and to - I'm not making this up - stop the steal.
Yes there are some within the EP GOP that are attempting to say this is an effort to steal the chairmanship from a guy who resigned because he didn't want the chairmanship anymore.
But hey Team Red - the Democratic Party absolutely loves what you guys are doing to yourselves. As long as you are bickering with one another you're no threat to gaining any ground. So by all means, keep arguing. Hell, split up and create a third party since you don't feel you're being listed to. Since the Republican GOP isn't quite racist enough for you, fuck it - start another party!
Social Security Numbers
If you have seen the movie The Departed, you'll remember there is a scene in which the crime boss asked everyone for their social security numbers. Well there was a weird effort by someone - I'm not exactly clear on who - to get social security numbers of everyone that donated to the GOP or candidates. Given Seeberger's financial history, a lot of Republicans are rightfully expressing concern over that effort.
You don't need to provide your social by the way.
Open to the Public
The Seeberger faction is super big on secrecy and hate the fact that their drama has been leaking out since day one. But they have pissed a lot of long-time Republicans off and when its not being live-streamed, the entire EP GOP post about it on Facebook. But with the state Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas has called a special meeting, understandably there is likely to be media interest in the meeting. Normally, this is something I'd show up to and press record on my phone or camera and watch the drama unfold. But Republicans are nasty and don't wear masks. Seriously they are the most irresponsible group of adults I have ever seen and they are likely super spreaders. Its a matter of time before the seniors in the GOP start dropping like flies. So I won't be attending.
But I talk to so many of them that I'll be able to give you all a pretty decent accounting of what happens tomorrow. And my favorite part is that now so many of them are going to be looking over their shoulder wondering who I am talking about. Which is the beauty of it all, because I speak to several of them regularly.
Think about the potential for crazy to happen. You've got the Border Blondes Bethany Hatch and her tag-team partner the other blonde that wants to open up schools for in-class instruction. Then add Angela Surrat and you have the complete set of the Border Conservative Coven. There'll be the racist and treasonous so-called Oath Keepers, the Open Carriers, the Libertarians, and the traditional GOP members.
Add to that Sammy Shit Show and if we are lucky - very lucky - Luis Ruiz will show up. Now I know none of you know who that is and the only reason you will ever know of him is because I'm writing about him now - but he goes by the handle of King Louix.
He's been posting stuff on social media that has people wondering if he needs legit mental care because he's gone off the deep end, not just with conspiracy theories, but he's done some really weird stuff like show up - according to his own account, naked at UMC and was "violated" by a needle. Then he said he battled a witch on a beach in LA because God told him to.
If he shows up too, man that is gonna be one awesome powder keg of crazy!
Maybe while they are there they can cask Irene Jackson what she did with all the money people contributed to her to try to get a recount after getting her ass waxed by Escobar in November.
Hopefully no one gets anything hurt other than their feelings. There are some genuinely good people in the El Paso GOP that I've known for years and just differ with politically. But I have a feeling that a lot of those really experienced folks are going to pushed aside regardless of how much they've contributed to their part over the years.
