Dee Margo & His Casual Racism

I can't recall a local elected official that is more casual about saying racist remarks than Dee Margo - which makes the fact that he's actually in a run-off for another 4 year term as Mayor of El Paso.

Recently Margo made a comment about "gestapo tactics" toward the only Jewish elected official on City Council. He altered followed that remark up with another towards that same Jewish member of council stating that he came from "a unique environment" and that was "unfortunate".

Well in this interview yesterday, Dee Margo makes a comment that I just can not believe he made and I had to watch it a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't imagining he said it. Mind you, this is the same guy who four years ago when he was running for Mayor he called Trump's proposed border wall a "freedom fence".

Follow this link to see video of Dee Margo's interview on Good Morning America, where he looks like a proper villain. He is clearly out of touch with the current state of the virus. He down plays its significance and when the interviewers asked what El Paso needs right now, Margo says that El Paso basically has everything we need.

Tell that to frontline healthcare workers that still have problems with PPE.

Think about that when you're struggling to make ends meet because of the economic impact. Think about that next time you're in a line to get food or in a long line to get a test. Or perhaps think about that this Thursday when you're not out at the Sun Bowl watching the parade or visiting with family.

But around a minute and a half into the interview Margo makes an incredibly offensive remark when talking about Latinos being more likely to contract COVID-19, about 4 times more likely to be hospitalized than the "normal Caucasians".

Normal Caucasians.

That is what a white Mayor of a border town that is about 80+% Latino said on national TV, without blinking.

I'm not exaggerating. I'm not making that up. He said it, and didn't even pause for a beat. He was casual and nonchalant about making the comment.
