Mayor Issues New Crowd Restrictions: GOP Hold Fundraiser
I don't know what it is about Republicans, but for whatever reason at the national, regional, and local levels, Republicans seem to just want to politicize the pandemic.
I don't know why they feel the need to make it a Democratic or Republican thing - but someone needs to tell them that the virus doesn't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican. Don't believe me GOP? Ask Herman Cain.
Oh yeah, you can't.
Because he's dead.
From the virus.
Well the local yokels of the El Paso GOP seem to really be rallying around being anti-masker Branch Covidians - despite the fact that we are now a national hotspot for the virus.
Here's a picture of some lady named Iris Chavelas, who I never heard about before several pictures of her started popping up on Facebook because she's apparently supporting a Democrat and a Republican. She apparently has some show on KVIV (honestly never heard of that station because well, who listens to radio anymore other than the oldies show on Sunday?). From what I gather its a pay-to-play sort of thing where you have to pay her for her to interview you.
Anytime you have someone who is trying to play for both teams, at the same time - in the valley of all places - its going to be noteworthy. Apparently several people asked her about it and even asked her to pose for pictures. I don't think she grasped why they wanted pictures.
As you can see she is handing out material and wearing a mask belonging to Republican candidate Phyllis Martinez Gonzalez.
My first reaction is kudos to her for having a mask. That is the responsible thing to do during a pandemic. Its even more noteworthy that it belongs to a Republican candidate. Also, kudos for the dog poop stick she's using to hand the Republican lit to voters.
Also very responsible of her.
It gives the illusion that the Republican candidate - who doesn't actually disclose to anyone that she's a Republican - respects the fact that we are in a pandemic and wants to keep fellow El Pasoans safe.
Except there's one problem with that.
I'll get back to that in a minute - but stick around for the payoff because you're gonna wanna see it.

Un-Hatched
As you know we are now a hotbed for the virus. Hospital beds are near capacity. We are on the cusp of being in a crisis situation. We have had personnel dispatched to our community to help.
Republican Mayor Dee Margo issued stricture rules as a result of the current situation in order to try to bend the curve and stop the spread. And what does the Republican nominee and sacrificial lamb for the SD 29 seat want to do?
She wants to send your kids to classrooms and open everything up.
She wants a free-for-all, every-person-for-themselves, damn-the-Rona-full-speed-ahead approach.
Obviously my first thought is, if this - if she doesn't give a shit about your family's safety, then she's clearly not worthy of their vote.
My second observation is - is that a change.org petition???
ROFLMFFAO!!!!!
If you don't get why thats funny, you don't deserve the laugh. JK, just inbox me and I'll tell you why.
The point is that Hatch is the personification of everything wrong with the inconsiderate people that are prolonging the pandemic instead of just being team players so we can all get through this situation.
Its downright unpatriotic.
The American thing to do, like in World War II is for everyone to share the burden in a mutual sacrifice to get through a rough time together as a nation.
What is worse about the local GOP - is that the voices in the GOP that actually still remember when Republicans believed in "Country first" and want to protect themselves and their neighbors - they are ostracized and attacked.
Which is fine by me - chase them our way. We'll be happy to have their votes in November.

The Red Spread
Mayor Margo issued new restrictions due to the pandemic, to the point of restricting family gatherings, no outdoor events of more than 10 people, restaurants have to go to carry-out and drive through only after 9pm, etc.
He also said that any exemption requests for events were suspended.
And then two days later the El Paso Republican Party held another in-person Trump - virus spreader event. They called it a fundraiser, but you get my drift.
They really don't give a damn what the City says, they are going to do whatever they want to do. And quite frankly, the city is not free of blame here. They were made aware of Republican in-person planned events that violate the rules. And the show goes on.
That is a failure on the part of Mayor Margo no matter how you slice the 'Rona.
How do you expect anyone to take the restrictions seriously if they are selectively enforced?
Now I took a few moments to go through the El Paso GOP's social media posts about the fundraiser over the weekend and I was pleasantly surprised to see a smattering of Republicans wearing masks. Not a lot. And that event shouldn't even have happened, but hey, at least some of them had a mask.
And now we get back to Judge Phyllis Martinez Gonzalez. Remember I mentioned the façade of being safe with the masks, etc?
Well let me show you EXACTLY what I mean about how its not real.
First of all, if you're a judge and you're running to be a judge - you might want to make sure you're not attending events that run afoul of locals regulations. Thats just good judgement.
Here's a pic from the GOP fundraiser. Everything looks kosher, right?
The Judge is wearing a mask. She's certainly not socially distanced...but hey at least she's wearing a mask and one of the other people in the pic is also wearing a mask.
But thats a posed picture, when she knows she's on camera.
Lets have another look.
Check out the next photo right underneath, featuring former County Commissioner Andrew Haggerty. Look a little closer and you'll see...when she's not posing for a picture at the event...no mask.
