Primary's Biggest Loser
Don't worry, I'm doing my traditional post-election winners and losers post, but this one is dedicated to the biggest loser in this election cycle.
Its actually not Max Grossman, though he's definitely in the next post. This cycle's biggest loser is AFT Union Boss Ross Moore.
Ross Moore likes media attention because well, Ross has a big ego. But Ross is all talk and never produces results.
Ever.
Before we go on about how he is the biggest loser, lets first outline what a massive hypocrite he is. I almost don't know where to start with the guy because there is just so much. I guess we'll start with start with the name-calling. Ross starts by calling COP a DINO - which means Democrat in Name Only. Then when I looked up his voting history I found out that COP's voting record was FAR more Democratic than that of Moore. She's probably have his age and appears to have voted in twice as many elections.
Then there's the fact that he didn't even vote in the school board election he was had candidates in. And I assure you, the candidates are pretty pissed about that - and so are his members. Yep, he doesn't have the support of his rank and file membership. They've been reaching out to me since Christmas about his conduct in this race. A LOT of your members Rossy.
Then there is all his name-calling of COP saying she's a charter supporter - meanwhile he endorsed not one, but TWO charter school candidates this cycle - Cesar Blanco and Iliana Holguin. I'll circle back to this part in a second. But for a guy who says he hates charters and CREEED so much, he had nor problem pouring money into one of the candidates he was backing last election cycle who absolutely did not need the money. The candidate was supported by CREEED and Ross knew that. He had no problem supporting the CREEED-supported candidate then because Ross was more concerned about beatig the incumbent Mickey Loweree. Seriously, there was no data involved in how he disbursed the money, he just wanted to make sure she lost so he dumped most of the union money behind her opponent. Meanwhile the other two candidate he supported got significantly less. And the candidate that got the least amount of money, lost because he simply didn't have the resources to finish the run-off the way he should because all the money was blown on a race that Loweree was gonna lose anyway.
He never spoke an ill word about his candidate then - but COP who has never taken charter school money was demonized by Ross Moore.
Come on Ross - you've had plenty of time to address it - tell your members why you didn't even vote in an election you expected your members to vote in? What kind of lead-from-the-front leadership is that?
Remember that check that somehow Ross Moore was the first to know about - even before the candidate - and was filed on a previous finance report from the PAC - suspiciously didn't arrive until the Saturday before the election. And isn't it all a little too coincidental that it wasn't post-marked from Austin until the day Ross Moore mentioned it as "breaking news"?
And why didn't he have single word to say about the candidate he endorsed, Cesar Blanco, being sent a check for TWICE as much as the one that mysteriously was never sent to COP until the day Moore mentioned it?
I mean let's just be honest here - Moore had no problem with his CREEED supported candidate and his charter school supported candidate he endorsed - but COP is sent a check she didn't know about but Ross mysteriously did that was for half as much as Blanco and he's calling here names?
Why? Because its okay for them because they are men and Claudia is held to a different standard because she's a woman?
But hey, lets circle back to that Iliana Holguin thing. Ol Rossy was obviously busted for having endorsed Iliana Holguin who is - by her own admission - a charter school supporter and sits on a charter school board. Now Rossy is trying to walk it back and tries to give himself cover by saying she's a member of an advisory board and not a member of the actual board.
Like that makes some kind of difference.
After how hypocritical he's been documented to be on charter schools in this cycle, I don't know whey he bothers to even try to hide the fact that Holguin is a big charter supporter. Especially considering he went on the attack over a check that wasn't asked for nor ever cashed from a charter - but wants to pretend its no big deal that Iliana Holguin is on a board for a charter school. Oh, and her children have never attended public schools. Just private and charter schools.
So yes Rossy, we know where you stand on charter schools. Based on this election cycle, you appear to have no problem with them.
And how about that rigged endorsement process? Moore held his endorsement process for the Central Labor Union on a day of city council. COP asked if it could be different day because the length if city council meetings is never the same. He wouldn't budge. But the fix was actually way worse than that. He also had Hector Montes as the moderator. Hardly an unbiased moderator. He's publicly attacked COP for years, so he's not an independent moderator by any stretch.
All done to ensure the desired result.
Then he starts a war with the Ysleta Teachers Association union boss Arlinda Valencia. Its pretty unheard of for a union boss to go after another union boss the way he did, but it was shades of the old United Farmworkers and Teamsters disputes of the 70's. Why on earth he would want to start a war with Valencia is beyond me. Politically, he fails to turn-out members.
Valencia turns out members for basically anything and she and the Ysleta Teachers Association have never lost an election.
Ever.
He even attacked the YISD Board of Trustees, apparently because he was upset that all but on of them endorsed COP and the one that didn't, had Tamayo stop using her name on endorsements because she never actually endorsed her. This is why Moore's ego is so funny. His own school board members don't give a damn what he thinks - other than Josh Acevedo, who Moore didn't endorse but he somehow convinced him to play camera boy the day they announced their endorsements.
Does he think for one second that there is a single member of the YISD Board of Trustees that is in the least bit intimidated by a guy who doesn't even have all his members behind him and hasn't accomplished anything as a union boss?
Spoiler alert Ross - they don't.
But for some reason a westsider who didn't vote in his own school board election thought he was going to help determine the outcome of a valley race? Insert laughing emoji, COP swept every precinct south of I-10 except one.
You know that that means? It means that the barrio is more Ordaz's base than it ever was for Norma Chavez.
Moore jumped into this race like he was some political guru and he got spanked. He made himself an issue by serving as an attack dog with his 24 ethics complaints that were kicked out.
Valencia held true to the endorsement they made. The delegation tried to intervene to prevent the endorsement. They leaned heavily on people around town and in Austin. Valencia endured and stood by YTA's endorsement.
And in the end, the YTA endorsement prevailed. And Ross Moore looked like a total ass.
