Boy Who Cried Wolf & the Union Boss That Didn't Vote
Some more fun facts about El Paso Teachers Association Union Boss Ross Moore. That guy has a pretty terrible - and well earned - reputation of being abrasive, hard to deal with, and a massive ego to go with sunny disposition he has.
But he's mostly known for being all bark and no bite. And trust me, Ross likes to hear the sound of his own voice. But since Moore is the delegation's lapdog, I think the analogy is apropos.
Ay-ay, "apropos".
I could spend all day on the stuff Ross Moore has said over the last few weeks, but I want to zero in on a couple that are really interesting, and tell you everything you need to know about Ross Moore.
First, just for funsies - lets talk about Ross calling people "DINOs" - short for Democrat in Name Only. That got me curious about his voting record. Mostly because he just seems like your prototypical Democrat that would secretly support someone like Trump. Those of you that work close with him know what I mean, he says some really off-color things.
So I looked up his voting history and compared it to my own voting history. The top is Ross Moore's voting history. Its decent I guess. But certainly not much to be writing home about - more importantly, not voting history of someone who is a labor leader. And certainly not voting history of someone who should be calling anyone else a DINO. (VAN goes back to 2006, but couldn't fit all of it on the screen, but its just one more election be participated in).
Ross is 64 years old which means he's got two decades on me and as you can see by comparing our voting records, as we gentlemen often say - well, "mine is bigger than yours".
By a lot.
Surprising that for a labor guy he's got pretty thin voting history, right?
Well I have to be honest about something.
I lied.
The screenshot that says "My Voting History" isn't really my voting history.
That is actually Claudia Ordaz Perez's voting history. She's probably less than half his age and has a far better work history than Moore. So much for her being a "DINO"...to borrow Moore's expression..."oops".
I checked Ross' voting record against the other teacher union bosses in the area and Moore has, by far, the worst voting record of his colleagues in education - including Norma De La Rosa of the El Paso Teachers' Association - who has a strong voting history. He also has far less voting history than Arlinda Valencia of YTA, the Socorro AFT and Socorro Teacher Association presidents as well.
Don't tell Ross, but out of all the education union bosses in town, he has the least voting history.
But that actually isn't the most important - or hypocritical thing about Moore's voting record. Go back and take a look at it again...Ross Moore didn't vote in 2019.
Why is that important?
Well I'm glad you asked...That was the last school board voting cycle.
Thats right AFT members - your union boss, who is supposed to have your back and mobilize your membership to maximize voting to elect pro-union candidates, DID NOT VOTE in that election!
Y'all remember that election?
That was the election to oust Mickey Loweree. Ross was all-in on that one. He pissed off the other candidates who were running for EPISD trustee positions what were supported by the union by putting the Lion's share of the union money behind one race - and as a result the other two ended up in run-off elections.
Moore lives on the westside and didn't vote - but told his members to vote and said how important it was...apparently not important enough for him to actually do it.
Seriously I can't begin to articulate how hilariously hypocritical it is of Ross Moore to have not voted in that election cycle.
Ross Moore should vote in his own district's elections before he starts criticizing board members from other districts.
Seriously, what kind of union boss doesn't vote in elections?
For those of you wondering - yes he lives in the area and he lives in the Coronado feeder pattern - which is the race he made the most noise about!
There's a lot more interesting about that cycle - but that's a story for another day.
Now lets talk about how deceptive Ross is - because this guy is a piece of work. Moore makes a big dramatic post about alleged charter PAC money that he never proves was actually sent.
He posted this screenshot of a report from a charter PAC that certainly looks incriminating doesn't it? Especially when he adds some crema to those tacos.
But interestingly he is completely silent about that fact that - on the very same report - right above his latest target - is a contribution for TWICE as much - to Cesar Blanco.
See, look here:
Ross Moore didn't mention that did he? Hell no, he conveniently cropped it out. How deceptive is that?
Who are Elisa Tamayo's biggest contributors? The delegation, which includes Cesar Blanco. Who did Ross Moore and the EP AFT endorse for Senator?
That's right, Cesar Blanco.
So here's how you could break things down: Charter Pac Money --------> Cesar Blanco ----------> Elisa Tamayo Campaign.
But wait...can you prove that Blanco ever received, much less actually accepted the check from the pro-charter organization?
Nope.
Not until he reports it on his finance report, which he conveniently doesn't have to report until July. Maybe Blanco never got the check. Maybe he got it and returned it. Maybe he happily accepted it. The only way we know is finance reports, right?
So ask yourself one question - why does Ross Moore go all-in against Claudia Ordaz Perez over a check that she didn't ask for, didn't receive, and wouldn't accept even if she ever did actually receive the check - to the point of calling her a liar - and not only doesn't say anything about Cesar Blanco receiving twice as much money from the same organization on the same report?
Not only does Roos Moore not say anything about it - he actively tries to hide that fact and then turned around and ENDORSED Blanco!
Ask yourself why he cries foul and attacks another union for who they endorse - and then stays silent about who his union endorsed, that got twice as much money?
Ross Moore has been having a fit over money spent on one state rep candidate but hasn't said a word about Tamayo's biggest contributors receiving money from billionaires and charter supporters. In fact, he not only doesn't say a word about those contributors, aka the delegation, but he endorses them!
Seriously, the level of hypocrisy from Ross and his endorsements is pretty embarrassing. Cesar Blanco not only takes a ton of Charter money...but he's supporting Mike Bloomberg. Bloomberg is the biggest charter school proponent this side of Iliana Holguin.
And Ross Moore had no problem supporting a candidate - with union money - that was supported by CREEED in the last EPISD elections. He had no problem with it at all.
So here's a scorecard for those of you trying to keep this straight - the guy who claims to be so concerned about charter school PACss has donated union money to a school board candidate that was supported by charter school donors (and didn't even vote in that election), endorsed a charter school PAC funded candidate for State Senate and endorsed a Charter School BOARD MEMBER, for precinct 3.
Lets wrap this up by reminding everyone of one important detail he doesn't want to talk about. He's been so fixated on attacking Claudia Ordaz Perez that he filed 24 ethics complaints against her. I guess he wanted one for each hour in the day.
Well he obviously didn't understand what he was talking about - and being publicly shown to be wrong probably bothers the hell out of him - and all of them were dismissed by an outside counsel.
All of them.
Every.
Single.
One.
And that's why Ross is the Union Boss that didn't vote - but cried wolf...
