Holguin Should Resign as Party Chair

I've gotten a lot of feedback from my recent conversations about Iliana Holguin and the District 6 race. Some folks have long asked why the resign-to-run clause didn't apply to her because they felt that she shouldn't remain chair of the Party during a primary in which she has a vested interest in the outcome.

After I explained why it didn't apply to her, people still felt like it was wrong because it just looks bad to be the chair during a primary and running for an office in the primary.

My response to that has been that Iliana Holguin doesn't look to be the least bit concerned about the appearance of conflicts of interest. Seriously, if that mattered she wouldn't have allowed thousands of dollars to be funneled to their political consulting firm, amirite?

The District 6 race is what really has got me going because Claudia Rodriguez is likely to win that race and she's not just a Republican - she's a hardcore Trump supporter. Iliana Holguin touted that under her leadership that the Republicans were finally kicked out of all the partisan races in El Paso, which is true. But what is also true is that the Republicans are about to get a Trump supporter into office.

In Iliana's own back yard! So she has to own that part of her record too.

I think she's more focused on her race than leading the Party. She let this happen but she took sides in the District 3 race in a very meaningful way. Hell, Aaron Paz really got involved in that race to the point where he interfered with another Democrat from getting VAN access and he doesn't live in that district, but crickets in the D6 race.

Hell, I wonder if Iliana Holguin is paying any attention to her other responsibilities any better than being chair right now? I'll bet her attendance record for UMC meetings is starting to look like Commissioner Carl Robinson's attendance record at Commissioner's Court, amirite? I wonder when the last time she actually attended a meeting?

You know, the guy that hired her husband to run his campaign and then turned around and appointed her to that Board. You memmur, memmur?
