Yet ANOTHER Holguin Money Problem...

Every time I turn around there seems to be another shady issue with the Holguins and money.

Here's the latest for those of you keeping score at home.

The Sheriff Officers' Association has come out in support of Iliana Holguin. She's been putting their endorsement on all of her campaign literature.

Why is that important?

Well I'm glad you asked.

The reason its important is because the candidates for Commissioner's Court are required to report campaign contributions in excess of $2,500 on the Commissioner's Court Meeting Agenda.

The two law enforcement unions put in big money into Commissioner Leon's campaign coffers. Like I said, candidates AND incumbents are required to report big contributions. Commissioner Leon obviously knows this rule and has complied with it - which is how we know how much money they gave him.

Which is the entire point of the rule - transparency. The rule exists so that the public knows who has contributed large sums of money to candidates.

But true to what appears to be the Holguin way of conducting their political family business, transparency is not their strong suit. Nobody knew about the campaign dollars from the El Paso County Democratic Party that were funneled under Iliana Holguin's watch to her husband Eddie Holguin until I looked up the campaign finance reports.

No one knew Eddie paid himself to do ads for the Tejano Democrats either until I looked up the campaign finance reports.

So clearly, transparency is pretty damn important.

Which leads to the question...if Iliana Holguin was endorsed by the law enforcement unions, why hasn't she complied with the reporting transparency rules and reported the contributions to the Commissioner's Court like she's supposed to?

Lets be real - if the law enforcement unions donated $7500 to Leon - who doesn't have an opponent - I'm pretty sure they are making it rain on Iliana Holguin. Those guys HATE Commissioner Perez and they have blown a lot of money on trying to kick him out of office, so I know they gave her AT LEAST what they gave Leon.

Eddie Holguin has made this mistake before. Holguin does a lot of hand-holding for Commissioner Robinson and Holguin failed to report big contributions to Commissioner's Court for Carl Robinson previously. You'd THINK he would know what he is doing by now and would at a minimum would make sure that his wife complied with all the transparency rules.

But they aren't.

Shocker.

At some point they are going to realize that the shady issues the Holguin's have with money are going to be a liability for their campaign. Especially now that there is another female candidate, who is also an attorney, and younger than Holguin.

Also, now that I think about it - this could be the function of a mistake made by Eddie Holguin. He has really spread himself thin representing so many candidates. He has a capacity issue. There is too much work to be done during now and Election Day.

So all of you that hired Eddie Holguin for your campaigns...judges, lawyers, businessmen...who do you REALLY think he's focused on right now?

::SPOILER ALERT::

IT PROBABLY AIN'T YOU!

Where do you think all the money you pay Eddie is going? Its going to Iliana's campaign.

But to chalk it up to a mistake on the part of Eddie Holguin is kind of silly. The reality is that Iliana is the candidate. Iliana is an attorney. She should be familiar with the reporting requirements.

This is just the latest in a series of issues related to campaign money and the Holguins that they very often do their best to explain away as though there aren't any issues with the money being funneled to their own family business.
