EP GOP Chair Silent on Trump Remarks about Hispanics
Trump was in New Mexico on Constitution Day. The El Paso Republican Party posted about Constitution Day on their Facebook page.
The very same day President Trump was in New Mexico and he asked the crowd a question, "Who do you like more? The country or the Hispanics?"
Its an either-or for President Trump - who is by default, the head of his Party. So that means its the official position of the Republican Party that there is a difference between our country and Hispanics.
That is the exact kind of rhetoric that inspires his supporters to drive over 10 hours to come to El Paso and hunt brown people.
They should never again be allowed to call themselves patriots. More Latinos have earned the Congressional Medal of Honor than any other minority group. My Tata Pedro Abeytia was a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima. He told me how he was referred to by his fellow Marines as "Mexican Pete". My grandfather instilled in all the members of my family a profound sense of patriotism.
My Tata was also a Republican.
He'd be rolling in his grave if he heard a Republican say something like that. The El Paso County Republican Party Chariman is Adolfo Telles. He's Hispanic. He's said nothing about Trump making a distinction between the country and Hispanics. That is a slap in the face to every patriotic Republican who happens to be Hispanic.
And Chairman Telles had nothing to say about it.
Shameful.
You know who else hasn't said a damn thing about it either?
The one Party in El Paso that you would EXPECT to have our backs as Latinos.
The El Paso County Democratic Party hasn't made mention of it at all.
Not a word.
Not from Chairwoman Holguin, not from the "Director of Communications", and most importantly....not from the Chairman of the "Flagship" Latino auxiliary of the El Paso Democratic Party - Eddie Holguin of the Paso Del Norte Tejano Democrats.
So Chairwoman Holguin has plenty to say about the shooting when it means she can be on CNN, but when Trump is using the kind of rhetoric that inspires people like the shooter to come to communities like ours and hunt brown people, she's silent?
Thats not "trusted leadership", thats failed leadership.
I checked the Tejanos social media page to see if they used their platform to stand up for Tejanos against such a blatant attack on the Latino community and guess what I found?
Not a damn thing about it.
Eddie apparently doesn't seem to mind, which is weird because a guy like him who is arguably the biggest DINO I ever have known you would think would at least stand up for raza.
But nope. He hasn't.
But you know what he has used the Tejano Democrats facebook page to talk about INSTEAD of standing up for raza against Trump?
Advertising for his wife's campaign - even though the Tejano Democrats endorsement is literally months away...
So I guess the Tejano Democrats membership - which is allegedly over 400 members (that is an upcoming blog that is REALLY interesting) is totally okay with Eddie deciding who they endorse before the endorsements...
But hey, the Party is all about the Holguins and their aspirations lately, amirite?
Its almost like he thinks the Tejanos is his own little kingdom to do with as he pleases.
Anywho...so much for Tejanos sticking to their own rhetoric of "taking appropriate public stands on issues relevant to our communities; and when necessary, proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation relevant to the Hispanic community."
Its more like "taking appropriate public stands that further the Holguin family interests that are relevant to them, and when necessary, proposing, supporting, or opposing whatever the hell is relevant to the Holguins."
This post should be about how the Republican Chair is raza and that he should be the first one pushing back against Trump's rhetoric. But sadly its more about the Party that is supposed to advocate for Latinos not even being interested enough in advocating for our community to even lift a finger to make a statement against Trump's latest pendejada.
That is not leadership.
Later we'll talk about County Judge Samaniego's excuses for taking pics with Trump, Chairwoman's Holguin's letter to Samaniego, the Tejano Democrats membership movida, and much, much more...
