Back on Track, Back in the Saddle...

I've been a little busy with campaign work lately but I had a night off and I thought I would catch up on some much-needed blogging.

Stick around for the next few days because I'm about to get back to something I lost track of...

Years ago when I started this blog it was about speaking truth to power. It was about holding electeds accountable, having informed discussions about policy, and sharing inside political info that I think the public should know.

Somewhere over the last couple of years I lost that original focus - and truth be told, maybe I lost a little bit of that fire I used to have inside of me. A little righteous rage is a good thing in politics, because if you aren't just a little pissed off about what is going on in politics, then you just aren't paying attention.

When you're the only blogger in town, usually the only vato that is going to show up and record things, ask the tough questions, and stand for something, it often makes some folks nervous. So as a consequence, a lot of people want to be friendly with me. A good friend of mine recently told mine its because I've often confused FRIENDLY with FRIENDSHIP.

That left me open to letting my guard down around candidates and electeds.

The worst thing it did was it gave some of you the opportunity to mistake my kindness for weakness.

Well that shit is over.

I guess all the knives I've had in my back over the last month or so have showed me that not everyone who is friendly to you is your friend and not everyone who is friendly to you deserves your friendship. And trust me, its been a lot of knives in a short period of time.

I heard that some of you have also come under the impression that because I have my hands full with campaign work that I am somehow "afraid" of going to Democratic Party events and meetings. This stems from the fact that former City Rep and current Chair of the Tejano Democrats Eddie Holguin lied to my face for about 6 months and I started poking around and finding out all kinds of shit about money and movidas.

Have you people forgotten who is the most confrontational politico in town is? Get this straight, I'm not now, nor have I ever been, the least bit afraid of ANYONE in the Democratic Party, nor have I ever been afraid to stand by my word.

There ain't shit I write in this blog that I won't say to a vato's face and you if you don't know that, you don't know me.

What is there to be afraid of? Pee Wee talking shit? Dirty looks? Whispers and chisme? Yeah, you all don't scare me.

Least of all am I afraid of someone who's spent his career playing second-fiddle to Norma Chavez and jumping every time she snapped her fingers.

But lest you all get the impression I'm afraid of anything, I'll make it a point to be at more events in the Party. I'm looking forward to it, because I've got lots to say and there's a whole lot more that people in the Party would be really interested to know about.

Also, there's very little that happens in the Party that I don't know about or hear about. Hate to break it to some of you, but the Holguin's aren't nearly as popular in the Party as they like to think they are and that movida Eddie pulled to try to consolidate power and push out Mary Bowles Gasca damn sure didn't help his popularity.

Neither did trying to get Tejanos to pay him to send out text messages. So lots of people in the Party tell me what is going on.

But here's one little tidbit to whet your whistle...

Word around the Party was that at the last CEC meeting there was a portion of the meeting where the Chair and others were trying to explain the $9,000 that got funneled from the Party to Eddie Holguin by producing invoices and checks and receipts etc.

Look, you can disagree with me. You can say, man that Jaime Abeytia sure is a dumbass. You can say, that fucking guy doesn't know what he's talking about. You can say, Jaime's a hot-head know-it-all.

But don't ever call me a liar.

I showed the expense reports.

Their own expense reports and it showed that under Iliana Holguin's leadership, $9,000 of Democratic Party funds were funneled to her husband. Their response was to show receipts and invoices and to say that Eddie didn't make any money off the election expenses. It was just a "pass-through".

But ask yourselves one thing...

If Eddie Holguin, who has a consulting firm that exists for the purposes of making money, wasn't making money off the money being funneled to him...

WHY WOULD THE MONEY NEED TO GO TO HIM, AND NOT DIRECTLY TO THE VENDOR?

Go ahead, chew on that one for a while...I'll go into that one deeper later.

See y'all at the next Democratic function!

Up next...

Wait til you hear the movida your El Paso delegation is trying to pull...
