Hernandez Declares Candidacy for Mayor; Triggers Resign to Run

I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach during the coverage of the shooting in El Paso that I kept trying to push down - but then I heard conversations of average El Pasoans who felt the same way. Its sad, but I just knew there was going to be people that would use the shooting as a spring board for another office.

Hell, one candidates pretty much compiled every interview they did and posted it on her website. Pretty naked display of leveraging a tragedy for political gain.

Now it looks like Cassandra Hernandez is also using that springboard for a mayoral run. I wrote about it even before the shooting, but Hernandez did a lot of TV interviews during the tragedy.

Late last night she changed here official Facebook page to her Mayoral candidacy Facebook page. And talk about falling on your face from the start, it appears she may have triggered the resign-to-run rule. She's more than a year away from the Mayoral election, and pretty much any public declaration would make that rule kick in.

But what else do you expect from Jeremy Jordan consulting?

Now let me walk you through a funny timeline with screenshots. I know, there's always screen shots, que no?

9:51pm I got a notification on my phone about a page I follow changing its name. So I checked it out.
Cassandra Hernandez City Council page was changed to Cassandra Hernandez for Mayor of El Paso, Texas.

Being the inquisitive guy that I am, I posted a comment on the page asking about the resign-to-run rule. That was 6 minutes later at 9:57pm, as you can see inn this screenshot.

I had sent the screen shot to several people I knew and after a few minutes, they started texting me back telling me they couldn't find the page. After several of those messages I decided to look myself and low and behold...the page was taken down.

So I went to check it out again, just moments before publishing this piece and guess what? Its back to its original name and content....

Isn't that something?

So looks like her mayoral bid will cost the tax payers an additional election, a special election to replace her as the City Rep for District 3.
