Cassandra Hernandez & Resignation
Cassandra Hernandez sent out a press release in which she is terca that she didn't resign from office.
Except she very clearly did. So lets clear up the narrative, shall we?
She made public notification that she was resigning.
You know who else says she made public notification?
Her lawyer, Daniel Marquez.
“It was an inadvertent public notification that went out when they changed the name of that Facebook account.”

If you caught yesterday's special meeting you would've got a kick out of it. First, she was wearing the same white suite that she's wearing in the images where she changed her page name to reflect her candidacy for Mayor. I'm sure it was because Monday was Women's Equality Day and she's trying to do the whole AOC and the rest of congress wearing white thing.
I just thought it was funny that its the same outfit.
You know what else was funny?
Her lawyer. Oh man I got a kick out of him.
That guy had 3 minutes during public comment to make an argument for his client to the members of council and he must have used 2:45 seconds telling city council how he was a Marine. I think he said he was a lawyer from Anthony, but I didn't catch whether it was Texas or New Mexico.
Another face plant brought to you by the Jeremy Jordan Consulting Firm, lol.
I know that last Friday afternoon Hernandez and Jeremy Jordan were scrambling to find a lawyer. I got multiple calls from attorneys saying that they were being asked if they could file an injunction against the city on behalf of Hernandez. They apparently couldn't find anyone because they even called lawyers who deal with traffic tickets, family law, and employment law.
So maybe that is how they ended up with that guy.
Either way, it was pretty funny stuff to watch.

First he said it "was inadvertent public notification." Then he says, "...it wasn't in inadvertent public notification..."
Vato, make up your mind. Which is it?
Also, can we be real about something? The only reason she took it down was because I posted a comment asking if it kicked in the "resign-to-run" clause. That is the only reason it was taken down.
Bottom line is that Cassandra Hernandez is screwing this whole situation up royally. At this point, she might as well have declared herself a candidate and just started her campaign. But the reality is this, she's trying to be slick.
She wants to run for mayor and still get a paycheck from tax payers. That is what this is all about.
No one who is actually serious about running for mayor would screw things up as bad as she has. And can I just say what you all are thinking?
If this is any demonstration of how she handles crisis, we would be in a really bad situation if she was mayor.
She's had a really great relationship with media in town, which I suspect is because I think she gives them a lot of stories, but adversity reveals the person you are and I think people are starting to see what is going on with this train wreck of a situation.
Hernandez can try the Shaggy Defense all she wants but the law and the AG opinions I have read are pretty clear - it was an automatic resignation. Council has to act. They don't have a choice.
The Texas Constitution says "shall".
Not "maybe".
Not "lets take it to the legislature and clear it up"
Not "you can take it back by blaming your staff, your neighbor, Tia Tencha from down the street, etc".
It says "shall".
Hernandez should suck it up and get busy on her mayoral campaign. Its going to take a lot for her to rehab the desmadre she is making right now, so she needs all the time she can get.

“That this was inadvertent public notification. This was a private conversation between Rep. Hernandez and a friend and volunteer that helps her with matters such as these and it wasn’t in inadvertent public notification that went out when they change the name of that Facebook account. Immediately steps were taken within minutes to have that removed, have it take it out of the public sphere,” Marquez said.Wait, what?
