The Republicans & Local Races
I get a kick out of the local Republican Party because they are comically inept - but they apparently don't know it.
If you watch their social media page, they spend a lot of time smack talking. Which hey, far be it from me to criticize a little healthy smack talk. Lord knows my favorite expression is "scoreboard".
Well for a party that has lost every partisan race in El Paso, you'd think by now they'd express a little humility and try to figure out how not to suck so badly. But rather than solve the mystery of why they keep losing, they just pull a Trump and claim victory.
Case in point, the last round of school board races. It is a nonpartisan race, but the GOP was solidly behind Tom Hicks.
As you can see, even in the bastion of their perceived power, they got their ass handed to them.
But hey, they post AOC memes, amirite?
Well let me tell you just how state the affairs of the local GOP really are right now. Word around the union campfires is that Tom Buchino, who was a GOP candidate for sheriff last election cycle is apparently going to run as a Democrat this time for sheriff.
Now this has been a rumor that has been on-again, off-again for a few months now, but he's apparently sought out union support again. They supported him the last time he ran as a Republican, so if he ran as a Democrat, he'd likely get their support again, which would be a real blow to the Carlos Carrillo campaign.
Sam Williams, who is a Republican, is running for congress again. But he's going to run as an independent.
THIS MEANS WE HAVE TO BE EXTRA VIGILANT ABOUT HOW IS AND IS NOT, A DEMOCRAT WHEN THEY COME AROUND ASKING FOR OUR VOTE. So that is incumbent upon us to ask the hard questions. And any candidate that isn't willing to answer them, dodges them, or gets angry about being asked, should flat out not get your vote.
Now the sheriff's race and the congressional race have a couple of their own posts coming down the pipeline. I'm just waiting on some documents. I know I keep promising those pieces but I had to request some documents and its taking longer than I thought.
But the main point I'm making here is that the GOP is so inept, that their own candidates in El Paso - most of whom are hardcore Trump supporters - don't even want to be associated with them.
And that folks, is hilarious to me.
