EPCC Race Results

This'll be short and sweet.

There were three EPCC seats up for grabs in this cycle.

I don't remember who has what district number because lets be real...who cares? I hope they redistrict in way that makes sense because its beyond stupid that I live in Ysleta and I am in the same district as someone who lives in the Willows.

Anywho, in that district, Christina Sanchez beat her opponents like they stole something. Frank Macias was one of her opponents and he promised to never raise taxes. He pretty much just sent out a mailer and that was it. If he had a block walking program, he wasn't committed to it and its why he lost. Well, one of the many reasons.

Her other opponent was perennial candidate Nico Dominguez who had all the money behind him. He basically put all of his money into campaign signs that unlawfully used the EPCC logo. I'm pretty sure Lucilla Najera was in charge of his sign placement in the valley. And it worked as well for him as it did for her.

You remember her right? She's the lady that ran as a Democrat and then a few months later was helping out a Republican? Yeah, that one.

Seriously, that guys is a fucking joke and it makes no sense that people would fund the guy. Why do you people keep putting money behind him? It can't be because you think the guy is in the least bit qualified for anything.

If this race doesn't teach you people a lesson about supporting Nico Dominguez, nothing will.

Sanchez was head and shoulders above her opponents in terms of qualifications. She's an attorney and a great thing about attorneys running for office is that they aren't afraid to ask the tough questions and they are good about one really important factor in government.

Keeping other lawyers in check. This is really inside baseball but one of the biggest problems with local government is that attorneys very frequently forget their role. Their role is to the the elected body if what they want to do is legal or illegal. But what they very often end up doing is providing policy advice.

That is not their role in the least. The electeds are chosen by their respective communities to make decisions on their behalf. Lawyers are there to tell them if they are doing everything in accordance with the law.

So its a very good thing that Sanchez won. She also was among the top two or three hardest working candidates this election cycle. Having the most qualified candidate along with a strong work ethic almost always assures a victory...even when they have the fugliest campaign color pallet in the history of any election ever.

In another race, Niña "European Vacation" Piña was elected. She was elected on the awesome platform that she wasn't her opponent. Seriously, how terrible of a state of affairs is it with community college candidates that the main selling point of a candidate is that she isn't as bad as her opponent.

Yay for us! We got someone who isn't as shitty as the other guy and couldn't be bothered to campaign because she was literally on a European vacation!

And that says everything you need to know about elections in El Paso.
