Taking Out the Trash Volume 1

As if this election cycle hasn't already been full of drama to begin with, there is actually much more and much worse than just Trustee Mickey Loweree allegedly lying about her experience, and allegedly lying about teaching certification, and allegedly lying about her degree, and being at all connected to Carlos Sierra.

Volume 2 of this series is going to be the worst and will make everything else you've heard this election cycle pale in comparison. But I'll get to that later.

For now, lets talk about San Eli's races. Its always the small town races were things get really intense. There is a school board race and a city council race down there that are pretty important to the community.

To know San Elizario is to love it.

While its most known for it's history, landmarks, historic, religious, and cultural sites, her beauty and tranquility, that isn't what is best about her. Its not even the fact that they seem to pretty much own the rest of Texas in cross country and soccer. And its not even the fact that for at least one night during the week there is a bit of a traffic jam on Socorro Road caused by the gathering of people to go watch handball games played by locals at El Rebote.

No, the best thing about her is her people.

The people of San Elizario are some of the best people on earth and you only need a few minutes in town to realize it.

And trust me, San Eli went through great struggle to be born.

So it boggles the mind that one of the candidates running for city council has a facebook profile that is filled with duck face selfies and kissy faces. She has a DUI and the supported by a council member who opposed incorporating in the first place and is pushing the removal of the town marshal position.

Which is weird because she also appears to have an active warrant right now. So you'd think she wouldn't be using lists of residents from a non-profit, risking the tax exempt status of said non profit.

In their races for school board, the big issue is the new super intendant's apparent bid to expand class sizes in San Elizario. A source familiar with the district says that the motivation for having larger classroom sizes is all financial and will ultimately lead to the losses of jobs.

Every other sensible school district is trying to reduce class size, not increase it. The incumbent trustee who isn't from the San Eli area but was appointed to serve out an unexpired term as trustee allegedly supports the policy. Michelle Garcia - someone I personally know - is opposed to that policy.

Think I might take my video camera out there today and have a looksy...
