EP Loses 2020 TDP Convention

El Paso was set to host the 2020 Texas Democratic Party Convention - which would have been a perfect backdrop considering Beto is in his presidential run.

Imagine how good that would be for El Paso - the economic impact of a major convention in the hometown of a major presidential candidate. You literally cannot buy press like that.

But the El Paso Convention and Visitor's Bureau didn't compete for the convention. Despite former City Representative and current State Democratic Executive Committeeman Eddie Holguin getting the TDP to delay awarding the convention, TWICE, the City never put in for a bid.

Seriously, that is a major screw-up on the part of the City, especially given how El Paso is becoming a bigger part of the national dialogue every day.

This failure falls squarely on the shoulders of one person.

Our Republican Mayor Dee Margo.

Also, speaking of our Republican Mayor, it was pretty freaking tone deaf for him to hold his fundraiser the same night as the vigil for the fallen officer. I get it, he planned the fundraiser in advance and had no way of knowing what was going to happen and it was a sheriff deputy, not a city cop - but still, its a tragedy that affected the whole community.

He could have at least postponed the fundraiser.

Yes, I know he went to the funeral the next day, but you still don't hold a fundraiser under those circumstances. It sends the wrong message to the community, but Republicans are the ones that act like they back the badge.

Having a hoity toity fundraiser when you're the mayor of the largest municipality in the county while a fallen deputy and resident of El Paso is being memorialized after dying in the line of duty is just the most Dee Margo thing I've ever heard.
