Samaniego & a Community College Seat

County Judge Richard Samaniego is now in an awkward position thanks to a race for El Paso Community College Board of Trustees and his nephew Christian Samaniego.

Young Christian is the campaign manager for one of the candidates in the race, El Paso attorney Frank Macias. I know, some of you have heard that he had a different campaign manager but it is in fact, Christian.

That race is a district that runs from the Willows down to my precinct in the Lower Valley. Talk about some ugly gerrymandering, amirite?

The seat was last held by Judge Selena Solis, who had to vacate the seat when she became a judge. Which is weird because Brian Haggerty is a JP and he holds a seat on that board, but that is a post for another day.

Anywho, the seat is currently held by prominent El Paso Attorney Christina Sanchez.

Here's where things get awkward for the County Judge.

As you can see from this screenshot of Macias' campaign website, it clearly shows that his campaign manager is Christian Samaniego.

Christina Sanchez works for the County Attorney's Office. If I'm not mistaken, she's the attorney assigned to sit in on County Commissioner's Court meetings to chime in on legal matters for the Court.

Like I said, AWKWARD!

Hey, can't control your family, amirite? After all, even I have Republican family.

It gets better..Nico Dominguez is the third candidate in the race. Nico Dominguez actually helped Samaniego in his campaign. I don't think the County Judge endorsed him. So that whole race is a fun little Samaniego triangle!

But young Christian really makes things awkward for his tio Richard because in addition to running a campaign for someone running against someone his uncle works with, he is also the guy who filed an ethics complain against Judge Samaniego's colleague, County Commissioner Carl Robinson.

The complaint has since been dropped, but man that guy really makes it awkward for the County Judge.

But since we are talking about campaigns and screenshots, here's something fun. I sure hope young Mr. Samaniego isn't using VAN for Mr. Macias' campaign because if he is, he's gonna have some 'splaining to do to the Texas Democratic Party.

Because according to this screenshot, he's an officer in the El Paso Republican Party.

I actually knew about this for awhile and I called the GOP to find out if it was the same guy.

It is.

Only they say he's no longer in the High School Republicans and he's part of College Republicans now.

I called young Mr. Samaniego about it some time ago and he denied still being a part of the GOP, although he acknowledged that he used to be.

But funny how months later and the GOP still has that up on their website, especially when months ago Samaniego told me he was going to ask them to take it down.

So at this point, TDP probably has no choice but to cut the vato off, which is bad for Macias' campaign.

Now, aren't y'all proud of me? I went through an entire post about the community college race and I didn't once mention how ugly Christina Sanchez's campaign color pallet is?

Oh damn, there I go again!

Nevermind.
