Miranda - Wever Movida Fail

Klayel-Avalos being interviewed by KVIA
Funny story on the campaign trail I thought was worth sharing about the District 6 EPISD race. Lets be honest, if EPISD is a desmadre, you knew at some point that the election would devolve into one too.

Former EPISD Trustee Dan Wever and Xavier Miranda really dislike Freddy Klayel-Avalos for some reason. I’m not exactly sure what it is, other than they are big supporters of Gary Berglund, one of the two other people running for the Franklin seat.

Wever is a guy who normally is a pretty thorough researcher and a strong advocate. Truth be told, I admire the guy.

So I about thoroughly confused as to why he didn’t catch a major mistake yesterday.

A source indicates that Wever was calling for Klayel-Avalos to be kicked off the ballot. The attempt to remove him was predicated on a lack of a birthdate on Klayel-Avalos’ application that is on the EPISD website.

The problem is, he and Miranda either didn’t bother checking the rest of them, or they did and were trying to pull a fast one, but NONE of the candidates for school board at EPISD have their birthdate listed.

Why?

Because EPISD redacts that information.

D’oh!

Go ahead, look it up. None of them have a birthday listed.

Including Mr. Berglund and Mr. Hicks.

KVIA was all set to do a story about how there was an effort to remove Klayel-Avalos from the ballot for not having his birthday but the story never ran.

If you look closely at Mr. Hick's document, you can see that it was carefully redacted using what appears to be White-Out.

I assume it didn’t run because someone must’ve explained to them that none of the candidates’ birthdays appear.

Its funny because it was such a massive failure - but it is more interesting because of the apparent lengths people will go to for their candidate.

Obviously this begs the question as to whether his was a coordinated effort with Mr. Berglund’s campaign or if this was just Wever and Miranda doing this on their own because they don’t see Berglund campaigning. Who knows what the real answer is, but it wouldn’t shock me if this was their own independent effort that they think is helpful to Berglund.

So there’s nothing that suggests Berglund was directly involved in this, but he most certainly would’ve benefited from Klayel-Avalos not being on the ballot because after Tom Hick's involvement with Carlos Sierra has come to light, theres no way that unions would back Hicks.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office the only way someone can be removed from the ballot at this point is if there is a court proceeding and it is ordered to be removed by a judge.

I honestly don’t know why Miranda and Wever or a few other people find Klayel-Avalos so threatening, maybe they have some personal investment into Berglund’s candidacy, but you’d figure that if he was endorsed by both teacher unions in the district, that he at least passed the muster based on their positions.

I sorta feel bad for Berglund because it seems like Miranda is always around causing problems for him with his support.

At any rate, the whole thing is hilarious.

Oh hey, speaking of unions…my next post is about the District 7 race and how one of the union bosses appears to have busted one of the candidates in a lie.

Stay tuned…
