Escobar Should File a Bill...

Trump has really wagged the dog on this one. He said there was a state of emergency not the border, which there wasn't. But, his deliberate policies have actually created major problems for local communities along the border by placing the burden of federal functions on to the local tax base.

My friend Susie Byrd posted something recently about some items needed to help some more migrants that have been released on the streets of El Paso. And it got me to thinking about something important.

Here's a dirty little secret you probably don't know. We use the Officer of Emergency Management to deal with this issue. A Volunteer Coordinator position has been created to deal with the Trumps immigration problem.

Actually you probably do know about it now that news reports have come out about it like this one from KVIA.

In fact, someone should look into the fact that the city of El Paso had voted to not participate in SB4, but if you ride along the border highway there are frequently police units close to the border that appear to be separate from the traffic patrol units. Someone should flat out ask the Chief of Police if they are now supporting Border Patrol operations. It would certainly be newsworthy if PD is now assisting in the enforcement of immigration law.

County and City resources have been used and spent on dealing with this issue. Trumps policies aren't changing and so the problems we have as a result of Trump's policies aren't going away. It is going to continue to cost us money.

The irony is that all those red MAGA hat wearing fools that were at the El Paso County Coliseum cheering on Trump's lies about El Paso, could potentially have to deal with a tax increase if the burden of Trump's policies continue to be born by local government.

Congress controls the purse. Congresswoman Escobar should file a bill ear marking dollars to border communities to offset the costs that local government is incurring.

The OEM is used to send out messages asking for help to deal with the influx of the refugees into our community due to Trump's policies. The OEM is funded by the local tax base.

The local tax base shouldn't have to pay for a federal function. If Trump wants to create a problem along the border, let him pay for it. What is going to happen?

Its going to pass in the House.

Will the Texas Senators vote against it in the Senate? Maybe.

But if Trump says there's an emergency and he wants to fund a wall that does nothing, then why not fund local government dealign with the problems he created.

Because the money is going to run out and people should stop looking to local government to fix a general government problem.
