El Paso Area State Rep Mary Gonzalez Backs Castro
The Castro campaign sent out an email of mostly San Antonio area elected officials that are supporting his candidacy for President on the day that Beto O'Rourke made his bid official.
Now an email is a very weak response to the coverage that Beto is getting and Castro's campaign that never really got off the ground too much to begin with is going to probably start a long slow death.
But it is interesting that in the list of mostly San Antonio Texas elected officials supporting Castro, that there was only one sole El Paso area name on that list.
That elected official?
State Rep Mary Gonzalez. Gonzalez is the State Rep for El Paso's HD 75 - an area that covers Far East El Paso, Montana Vista, Clint, Horizon, Sparks, San Eli, Fabens, Tornillo and most of the colonias.
I tried to contact Rep Gonzalez to verify if it was accurate that she was endorsing Castro and if she was previously, is she standing by that endorsement now that El Paso's Beto O'Rourke has entered the race. That was a few hours ago, but the legislature is in session and she probably has a million other things to do other than respond to a blogger's request for comment.
But when I get comment from her on the matter I'll post it here.
I've already been contacted by several politicos about Gonzalez's inclusion in that list. If she's standing by her endorsement of Castro, that makes her the most prominent El Pasoan endorsing Castro and now doing so over Beto.
Interestingly the name left off that list from El Paso was former State Rep Norma Chavez. She hates Beto and used to mock his name the way white Republicans do now. She's been pushing hard for Castro and even went to the Demo office to put up a Castro sign.
But she didn't make Castro's list...
