Eastside Dust-Up Last Night
Ah, just when I thought that all the drama was gone from Democratic Party functions...it came roaring back last night at the Eastside Democrats meeting.
City Rep Henry Rivera was updating the members on the Eastside Master Plan. The floor was opened up for questions.
It didn't go well.
And that is when it all turned into a desmadre.
Frankly the Party auxiliaries are all getting along just fine now.
But leave it to Hurricane Dora to screw it all up.
Dora likes to take pictures of people. I think in her mind that it is somehow intimidating to other people. She was taking pics of City Rep Lily Limón eating dinner during the meeting. I know, its silly, but if you know Dora personally, you know she really likes doing stupid stuff like that.
Eventually Former City Representative Eddie Holguin asked a question about the discrepancy of funds between the westside and the valley in the Eastside Master Plan.
Pretty simple question.
Rivera gave an answer that most of the crowd kind of thought wasn't responsive to the question. Sensing it wasn't going right, self-appointed deputy City Rep Dora Oaxaca jumped in to try to save the day.
Eventually it turned into a sparring match between former City Representative Holguin and self-appointed Deputy City Rep Dora Oaxaca. The particulars of the issue ended up not mattering to the folks in attendance because they were more interested in the desmadre it turned into.
Let me pause here and let you in on a little context. Holguin, along with former City Rep Lily Limón ran State Representative Art Fierro's campaign. Oaxaca ran Dr. Noe's. Team Fierro recently put a massive beat down on Team Noe.
Obviously, Dora hates losing - although it happens so often to her that you'd think she'd be used to it by now.
Anywho...
Multiple attendees said that Dora was so intent on defending Rep Rivera that she kept interjecting during the conversation between the former and current members of council. It kept going to the point where Rep Rivera tried to get her to stop multiple times as she started raising her voice at Holguin.
According to attendees Rep Rivera eventually just sort of wandered off away from the conversation until the conversation died down. It died down because self-appointed Deputy City Rep Dora Oaxaca decided to throw an actual city representative under the bus to divert from the conversation by saying to Holguin, "You should just talk with YOUR city representative because maybe she's not doing her job keeping you informed".
That was an obvious shot at the rep who now holds the seat once held by Holguin.
Attendees said that Rep Rivera was visibly embarrassed at the exchange.
Self-appointed Deputy City Rep Dora Oaxaca's former boss, and current president of the Eastside Democrats Emma Acosta eventually intervened to try to end the conversation. But Oaxaca wasn't having it. She interjected again to challenge Holguin saying "I've never seen you at any of OUR meetings." Apparently referring to Rep Rivera's community meetings
I guess she doesn't realize that no one voted for her, they voted for her husband.
Stuff like this never happened at Eastside Democrats' meetings under the Williams' leadership of the organization. In fact, ESD was known for being the one organization that never had any drama.
Until now.
I called former City Rep Eddie Holguin for comment and he said, "I have no comment other than to say that Representative Oaxaca has no command of the issues."
Seriously, thats what he said.
There was one more pierdada at the end of the meeting. They had an item to move the meetings of the Eastside Democrats to La Morena Restaurant on Lee Treviño. Rep Limón who stayed out of the desmadre earlier decided she'd help Holguin out and when they asked to move the meeting to the new restaurant - Limón asked aloud, "isn't that where they had Art Fierro's victory party?"
Zas!
And that ladies and gentlemen, is how you get the last word.
