Carlos Sierra's EPISD Candidates

Well as they say, a picture says a thousand words. A while back some folks saw that Carlos Sierra was bragging about the work he does for his candidates for EPISD.

Candidates, meaning multiple.

It was pretty evident who they would be considering everyone already knew that one of them was Trustee Mickey Loweree. So by process of elimination the other candidate had to be Tom Hicks, the candidate in EPISD District 6, which is the Franklin area.

Trustee Loweree posted this picture at a recent campaign event and as you can see in the photo, Loweree is pictured with Carlos Sierra, failed mayoral candidate David Saucedo, Tom Hicks, and David Rodriguez.

If you recall there was controversy around Rodriguez and his social media posts that were pro-Trump and very anti-immigrant back when he endorsed Dori Fenenbock in her bid to be congresswoman of El Paso. Here is a story in the El Paso Times that discussed Rodriguez's pro-Trump anti-immigrant stance. KTSM ran a news story that also discussed Fenenbock's endorsement from David Rodriguez. The story mentions that the progressive political action committee Latino Victory used the endorsement as a warning to Democrats about supporting Dori Fenenbock. David Saucedo is a former mayoral candidate who somehow managed to lose to a white Republican in a citywide election. He also decided that losing that election made him qualified to become a political consultant. His major client now no longer wants to work with the guy and found another consultant to help him out with his next endeavor.

I'm not sure if he teamed up with Sierra or if he's just trying to get some of that campaign cash, but there is a dilemma relating to Loweree's campaign funding. I'll get to that in a minute.

Obviously Sierra's inclusion in the picture just underscores what everyone already knew but Tom Hicks being connected to Sierra is problematic for him as well.

As you recall, Sierra ran a shady PAC that still hasn't complied with campaign finance rules. In an era when EPISD is synonymous with controversy it is amazing that Loweree and now Hicks, would invite that level of controversy that comes with Carlos Sierra.

And Sierra's involvement may have already have had an impact on Loweree's funding. CREEED is looking to back a horse in several of these school board races. But they have a major concern about being tied to controversy or anything that smells even the slightest bit like corruption. Also, some of the CREEED guys also fund candidates and elected officials that Sierra has openly declared war on.

It is unlikely that they will want their money to end up in the hands of Sierra, or Saucedo for that matter, only to fund Sierra's next dark campaign movidas.

Tom Hicks from what I am told his genuinely a nice guy. It boggles the mind he'd be associated with Sierra, but as the saying goes, a picture says a thousand words. Sierra literally has his arm around Tom Hicks.

And why is this a big deal? Well because Loweree and Hicks have the potential to be mirror images of the predecessors on the EPISD school board - candidates that are going to be supportive of the Superintendent and perpetuate the status quo at EPISD and I don't know anyone that thinks staying on the current path makes any sense.
