Republican Hypocrisy - The Anthony Aguero Story

There is no group more prone to hypocrisy than a bunch of self-righteous Republicans in their circle jerk of elitism on their social media echo chambers.

But the hypocrisy of a guy named Anthony Aguero is egregious even by GOP standards. So let me start by explaining who he is. He's a younger member of the El Paso Republican Party and worked with the train wreck that was the Rick Seeberger congressional campaign. The last time I saw him was when he and a few other young guys were trying to ambush Congresswoman Veronica Escobar at a debate forum.

However a lot of you have seen him online lately and filled my phone, inbox on Facebook, and email about the guy. He's the guy that has been harassing immigrants that have been dumped at the Greyhound station in the cold and middle of the night.

He's gun enthusiast (so am I) and is a danger to this community. Not because of the guns or any particular persuasion of violence - he fancies himself a tough guy until he's caught and confronted and you can see he's about as dangerous as a sunflower.

He has a bunch of videos over on this FB page he has that feature him lurking around in the dark and following the immigrants to see where they are staying and what is happening with them. I think anyone that would catch a guy following them around, lurking in the dark with a video camera - well, they'd probably get dealt with in a distinctly Texas kind of way.

His videos are inflammatory and filled with his right-wing conservative Fox News vitriol and frankly I don't care that the guy chooses to be ignorant. If we as a society went after everyone of those Faux News sheep then what would this country be? He's your garden-variety Trump-bot that actually thinks being ignorant of policy is endearing. He and his other sheep on his page repeatedly repeatedly reiterate racist rhetoric about how the immigrants are "illegals" and that our country is being "invaded" and how they are "dangerous", a "threat to our safety", "breaking the law", and "a burden on tax payers".

Trust me, that's the nicest things they say. But take note of those quotes, because they are going to come into play later.

He is ignorant as to the actual facts. The folks that are being released at the Greyhound are actually not "illegal aliens". They, along with any other caravan folks, are seeking political asylum. Any first year law student - or well informed patriotic American - can tell you that you simply have to present yourself to seek asylum. There is no requirement as to where in the US you have to do so. Then a little thing outlined in the constitution called due process, kicks in and they will all have their day in court so that they can have a judge hear their case.

The fact that these people are doing exactly what they are supposed to do in order to enter the United States the "right way" and they are still being attacked is exactly why its not about their status. Its exactly what most of us have been saying all along.

Its about their color.

Anywho, once I confronted the guy online about what he was doing and how he and his ilk are actually ignorant as to policy, he shat himself. The first thing he did was try to imply that he was going to use my dirty laundry against me - which is every amateur's go-to move and a dead give-a-way that they know they are going to lose on the issue.

But I'm a big boy, that doesn't bother me. If I had a nickel for every time some idiot resorted to that kind of crap when they are beat on an issue I could afford to buy that guy some class and dignity. The bottom line is, I have a couple of misdemeanors. As bad as my haters try to make me be out, I have a couple of minor things on my record and nothing violent at all. I just get called a thug because I'm brown and from the barrio.

But not so fast my friends....

As it turns out there is a threat in this story.

There is in fact someone who breaks the law.

There is someone to call dangerous; a threat to public safety.

There is someone who has engaged in illegal activity.

There is someone who has been "a burden to taxpayers".

Its the hypocrisy of the right personified. Anthony Aguero uses his social media platform and multimedia to attack immigrants that are seeking asylum - legally - and calls them a threat to our safety, says they are breaking the law, and that they are a burden to taxpayers. The fact is most of the people that have been dropped off in the downtown Greyhound station are women and children. The only threat these kids are is to the diapers they are wearing.

But do you know who is a threat to public safety?

Do you know how has broken the law, and a felony at that?

Do you know who has been a burden to tax payers?

A guy named Pedro Anthony Aguero. You all know him as Conservative Anthony or Anthony Aguero. The guy harassing immigrants and getting caught lurking around in the dark.

Turns out he got wasted and drove down the opposite side of the freeway, causing an accident when a vehicle swerved to avoid his car and struck another vehicle sending the occupants to the hospital with serious injuries. Talk about a threat to public safety.

He was driving while intoxicated. That is breaking the law.

And while he was a guest in the county jail or if he in fact actually went to prison, guess who paid for his stay there? Thats right, he was a burden on tax payers.

Trust me, there was a bunch of people inboxing me about this guy and people made claims that I can't actually verify, like alleging some stuff about his own immigration status at point in his life. I won't go into the details of that issue but the point is, its points to the hypocrisy that is so prevalent on the right.

You know, like the anti-gay preachers that turn out to be gay, or the traditional marriage advocates that get caught cheating on their wives, or President Trump bitching about a female member of congress using locker room language.

Now for all my Republitarian friends that are reading this, you guys always say that the panacea to everything is "the market". The invisible hand of God called by the Republitarian money-worshippers is called "the market" and is the solution to every problem in their eyes. So I'm sure they'll appreciate this next part.

This is America folks and in this country you are free to express any opinion you want. Hell you're free to be an ignorant asshole as Aguero clearly has chosen. But, if the market doesn't like it, they can act accordingly. Amirite Republitarians?

So you have a choice who you do business with in El Paso. The guy is in the realty business, which has a lot of Republicans in it, but our money spends just was well as anyone else's. You can choose to do business with him or the company he works for, or you can choose to spend your money with a competitor. Thats the great thing about this country.

No one cares about your color, orientation, religion, legal statues, etc if you're making a purchase. Everyone will happily take your money. Act accordingly.

Oh but hey, since we are talking about how Anthony Aguero is so concerned about following the law and all, and since we are talking about being a realtor, I found this little gem pretty interesting.

Maybe he's since fixed this issue and hasn't been involved in any sort of real estate sale without a license.

Cuz ya know...rule of law and all of that.

Here's the bottom line. Conservative Anthony should actually be called Hypocrite Antonio. Its sad to see a guy who is himself an immigrant, who according to what is being said by some, was undocumented himself, prey on folks seeking asylum here in our country. Its more sad to see them use the internet in a vain attempt at shaming them.

Well here's the thing about the power of the internet. Its easy to be tough guy and prey on those that don't have a voice of their own and can't fight back. But when confronted, these cowards like Hypocrite Anthonio back down.

You see that who use-the-internet-to-shame-someone thing can turn against you Antonio. So don't start bitching like a little snowflake now that turnabout is fair play. You're a convicted felon who hurt innocent people and you have the audacity to demonize immigrants seeking asylum?

How dare you!

That reminds me, Homeboy of the Month Award goes to Michael Patiño from Duranguito. The vato opened up his place so that immigrants could get warm and use the restroom when they were just dropped off at the bus station, but he also confronted Cowardly Anthony when he was trying to shoot one of lurking-in-the-dark videos and made him look like a fool.

I'll conclude with this little message to Conservative Anthony. I should thank you. I should thank you for showing everyone the difference between conservative extremists like you, and average El Pasoans. El Pasoans have come together to help deal with this humanitarian crisis in our community. People from all walks of life have donated time, money, food, medicine, clothing, shelter, bus tickets, etc to help their fellow human beings.

You demonstrated just how good this community can be, by showing just how bad your side can be.

Your name is Antonio and you're a brown immigrant from Mexico vato. You'll never be anything more than that to those conservative white people who's ass you're trying to kiss. I get why you do this. I get why you wear the MAGA hat and the MAGA beanie and try to come across all Super American. You're self-conscious about being a brown immigrant. For some reason you've let them make you feel ashamed of that.

Thats why you won't even use the name you were given and try to whiten up Antonio to Anthony.

But look, I don't much care that you're a conservative. I have conservative family. But I do care that you're a hypocrite and are using the internet to prey upon and shame people that are coming from really bad situations so that you can show your white friends just how white you wanna be too.

What you're doing isn't conservative. It isn't American.

You're just being an asshole because you think that is what will someday make you accepted by them.  I'm American. I'm a veteran. I was literally born on the 4th of July. And I'm proud to be American.

But being proud to be American doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of being brown. Brown is beautiful. So is our culture, our children, and our names. I make white people say my name correctly.

I don't change my name to please them.

Look in the mirror vato. Those are brown eyes and calling yourself Conservative Anthony is never going to make them blue.

And Liberal Jaime Remigio is just as American (actually more so) than Conservative Pedro Antonio.

This country was built by immigrants Antonio. Persecuting them is literally the most unAmerican thing you can do.

We don't have to Make America Great Again. We've always been great. We've been flawed during our history, but we've always been great. And the reason we have always been great is because we are continuously renewed by the youth, vigor, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of the immigrant.

One day, one of those kids that you were taking video of may end up curing cancer, building a better iPhone, or run for office. If you can support a Canadian-born son of a Cuban immigrant for senator, you may one day have a Guatemalan-born son of an immigrant be your senator.

And if you do, God bless Texas.
