YISD Times Endorsement - Are You Joking?
I rarely comment on the endorsements of the El Paso Times Editorial Board because they usually get it right.
This isn't one of those times. I think the paper made a terrible endorsement in the case of the YISD Trustee candidate in the Bel Air area.
I cannot understand the rational for the El Paso Times to endorse Mary First Perales. By every measure she is the wrong candidate.
Perales only has a GED. Look I'm a vato that never went to college so I know that having an education doesn't make you a better candidate all by itself. But if you're going for a position having to do with public education, you'd think at least graduating from high school is important.
Not to mention the fact that there are major financial issues facing YISD. You'd think the Times would understand that having a solid grasp of the complexities of a multi-million dollar budget is important.
You'd think that would be more important than having lived in Ranchland a long time.
And don't get me wrong, people on the YISD board like Marty Reyes and Ana Dueñes would make almost anyone want to throw the baby out with the bath water. But that's actually all the more reason to make a quality decision on the make-up of the YISD board.
Incumbent Connie Woodruff, along with Shane Haggerty, are voices of reason in the crazy train that is the YISD board of trustees.
There needs to be a much better reason to replace a degreed professional who has made good decisions for the district than the fact that Perales can tell good jokes.
Yep, the Times made note of her sense of humor in their endorsement.
"In District 2, which is the Bel Air High area, we recommend Mary First Perales. She is a longtime resident of the Ranchland neighborhood and a school volunteer.
She has a passion for her community, as well as a sense of humor that is needed on the school board.
Incumbent Connie Woodruff has given dedicated service to the board, despite coming up on the minority end of 4-3 votes that have come to characterize the board. We believe a change is needed in the board dynamic."
There are already too many clowns on that board doing stuff like spending more than $50,000 to fight Rep Marquez's transparency bill. Why are we trying to cram another occupant into the clown car?
How in the hell do you endorse a candidate with a bunch of no's?
No budget experience
No policy experience
No education
But she's got jokes. Wonderful.
Looks more like the joke is on Bel Air.
