Svarzbein Campaign Kick-off
If what I'm told by a source is accurate, then Peter Svarzbein is a legit candidate and coming out early was the best thing he could've done.
I'm told the Svarzbein campaign raised around $17,000 at his campaign kick-off event. That's about half of what he needs to win in that race if there's a field of legitimate candidates. That's big money for a city council race and I can't recall another time that a single kick-off event for a council seat raised that kind of money.
I don't know how much he already has and a good campaign will have money ready to go, but even if he had zero in the bank, $17k is still impressive. He's gonna need to duplicate that effort before its all said and done.
We will see what the numbers look like officially when the campaign finance reports come out soon. Either way coming out that early and raising that kind of money is impressive. If he starts block walking now, he may kill most opposition in the cradle.
By the way, he's an artist that works with photography and video so expect him to have the coolest campaign stuff. I think I saw a sticker in some photos from the even that said #TeamPedro. Cool idea for the west side. Most people won't have a problem realizing Pedro is Peter on the ballot.
What's the over-under for how quickly we see Vote for Pedro shirts floating around on the west side?
BTW - David K did an election piece and you should check it out. He's certainly right about one of the candidates having some black marks on his record. He's not kidding about that. It's pretty bad and will likely mean he's not going to be a viable candidate. I'll keep you posted as it develops.
