Socorro Mayor Comes Out
Socorro Mayor Jesus Ruiz comes out in support of marriage equality. Ruiz, who is one of the youngest mayors in Texas, has joined a handful of other mayors of municipalities across the state to join Mayors for the Freedom to Marry.
This is noteworthy not only because Texas is a red state but also because there is a common misconception that people in the valley are against gay marriage because of the fact that they are largely Catholic.
Socorro is the second-largest municipality in El Paso County.
