Why O'Rourke Should Debate the Republican Candidate

The two remaining candidates should debate soon. The viable candidate, Beto O'Rourke should unleash on the Republican and get it over with.

Lets start with some political realities. The Republican nominee is not a moderate. If you examine the public record of the positions the Republican challenger has taken on the issues you will see that she is not a moderate. No matter how hard she, or Sore Loser Democrats (SLD's) that are upset that Congressman Reyes was beaten, want to try to re-invent her as some middle-of-the-roader that can appeal to Democrats, its just not consistent with the facts.

SLD's want to portray the Republican nominee in a light that will help her appeal to Democrats. That's pretty hard to do with your Party Platform for the GOP is against unions (I'm looking at you Municipal Police Officer's Association), is against a woman's right to choose, is against Universal Health Care, is against Comprehensive Immigration Reform, is against the DREAM Act, believes Climate Change is a fabrication, and has a platform that would be detrimental to the environment.

It is going to be a huge challenge for SLD's to be able to square those positions up with the nominee's base and the base of the Democratic Party.

If you really want to see how the candidates stack up against one another, the only way to do that is a side-by-side comparison, or an in-depth interview with media. But lets face it, an in-depth issue-based interview with the media isn't going to happen.

But if it did, or if there was a debate, there are some very basic questions that the candidates could answer that would clearly define the differences between the candidates. Once you get the answer then you can decide if the Republican nominee is really a moderate who can appeal to Democrats, or if she is another Tea Party extremist that is only backed by the SLD's because they can't take the fact that they lost.

So here are some questions that the Democratic nominee should be excited about answering alongside his Republican opponent in a debate:

1. Who will you vote for in November for President of the United States?

2. Abortion - Explain your position.

3. The role of government - explain your position.

4. Education - more funding or end the Department of Education?

5. Do you support the DREAM Act? Explain your position.

6. Do you support Comprehensive Immigration Reform and explain in detail legislation you would propose on the issue.

7. Do you support enforcement-only immigration legislation?

8. Do you support a border wall or increased militarization of the border?

9. Thoroughly explain your position on the environment and give examples of specific legislation you would propose.

10. Do you support drilling for oil in environmentally sensitive areas?

11. Explain your thoughts on foreign relations policies? In particular, give context as to your position on Iran-US relations and if you believe Islam is an enemy of the United States.

12. How do your personal political views line up with those of the TEA Party?

13. Do you believe President Barack Obama is an American citizen or do you believe that his birth certificate is fabricated?

Those questions ought to do a good job of fleshing out the differences in the candidates and showing them for what their true beliefs are.

Once those positions are addressed Congressman-Elect O'Rourke should have no trouble clarifying the stark policy differences between his candidacy and that of the Republican nominee.

Sorry SLD's...
