Zulema Lazarin Possibly Off the Ballot in District 6

Yet another of Pastor Brown's followers, Zulema Lazarin, appears to be in peril and could quite possibly lose her spot on the ballot. Lazarin is taking on City Rep Eddie Holguin.

It appears that Lazarin has added to her ever-growing list of political missteps in her bid to become City Rep. First she intended to run in District 5, until she found out she doesn't actually live in that district. Then she filed papers that said she didn't intend to raise more than $500. I wrote about that apparent error and she quickly corrected her mistake.

Well, the third time isn't a charm because she no longer has time to fix her error. If you look at her application, the first thing that has to be filled out is the name of the city in which the candidate is pursuing office.

Lazarin filled in the name GENERAL, which indicated she was running in General, Texas. I did a search and it appears that there is no such place in the state of Texas. Although I should note that there is a town called Nowhere, Arizona.

I checked with the City Attorney's Office shortly after the filing deadline (5:18pm by the time on my cell phone) and it I was referred to Julie Lozano's Office. She's a very nice lady by the way.

I had inquired about whether Lazarin could actually appear on a City of El Paso ballot if she was indicating that she was filing for candidacy in a non-existent city. I also inquired as to whether it was too late to correct the error.

Lozano said the City Attorney's Office was researching the issue and needed to review the documents before advising me as to the legality of her place on the ballot. I had also inquired as to what would happen if that mistake was not corrected in terms of process. I was told they would give me an answer later this week.

More info as it becomes available...

On the bright side for Lazarin, she could always move to Arizona and run in Nowhere. Looks like thats where here campaign is headed anyway...
