Gay is Not a Lifestyle
I hear the homophobes and their steady drumbeat and its getting on my nerves so I feel I have to say something about it.
You can usually spot them the minute they start talking. They say something along the lines of, “I’m not prejudice against gays, but I just don’t like their lifestyle.” Its entirely possible that some of these people think it actually is a lifestyle, but somebody has to set them straight…no pun intended.
Lifestyle implies a choice. Its something you choose to become a part of like lowrider culture, skiing, scrapbooking, hunting, spelunking (people who explore caves, I just like saying the word cuz it sounds dirty), or people who work out a lot.
It’s a choice.
Being gay isn’t a choice.
I know that’s hard for some people to wrap their head around, but it’s the truth.
Don’t believe me, let’s try a little test. If you are heterosexual (that means you like people from the opposite sex), how old were you when you chose to like the opposite sex?
Was it in the sandbox, the nursery, or the locker room in high school? Were you confused about it for a while and then woke up one morning and decided you were going to be straight? I know, I know, you are appalled at the thought.
You always liked the opposite sex and are offended by the inference that you would ever consider playing for the other team.
I get it.
I understand you.
I’m the same way. I’ve always liked women, not preferred them, because it was never a choice. I only like women. Usually ones with big booties, a little cholita in them, her own eyebrows (no sharpies) and preferably not too much emotional baggage, I have enough of my own thank you very much.
The point it, I’ve never been in to other vatos and I never had a choice in the matter. And gay people don’t either. They are attracted to who they are attracted to because that’s the way they were born.
Think about it, there probably aren’t too many people that would choose to be discriminated against and vilified by neo-cons if they could help it.
So for those of you walking around trying to convince yourself that you aren’t prejudice, you just don’t like their lifestyle, please realize how ignorant you sound. They have no more control over their sexual orientation than you had over what color you were born, who your parents are, or what color your eyes are.
And we all know how ignorant it is to discriminate against someone because of their skin color, right?
