Besco Bombs

Tim Besco, the Republican's sacrificial lamb running against Congressman Reyes this year has been pretty comical so far.

He's a nice guy and all, but in my opinion not remotely qualified for the job. That's mostly his fault, but partly the fault of his campaign manager, Oscar Gonzalez. He is allegedly a Democrat, but I've checked around the party and no one seems to remember him being active in the party. His website leads one to believe he's worked on political campaigns previously, but it does not site specific examples. In fact it just states, "Various political campaigns".

The guy comes across abrasive, even by local Republican standards. According to sources within the Republican party, he's burned a lot of bridges and hasn't won Besco too many fans, to say nothing of votes.

Recently Besco demonstrated why I believe he isn't qualified for the job.

One of the most important jobs of the campaign manager is to prepare and protect your candidate. Prepare them for debates/appearances/endorsements, and protect them from themself/bad decisions/opposition/gaffe's etc.

Recently at the Mexican American Bar Association (MABA) endorsement meetings Tim Besco and Congressman Reyes squared off for the endorsement. The announcemet of who received the endorsements has yet to be made, but there was at least one funny exchange.

Besco was asked about the DREAM ACT. Besco routinely will try to agree with whomever he is speaking, but that doesn't work well in endorsement meetings. Besco gave an answer that really didn't answer the fundamental question.

Congressman Reyes pounced on it. The Congressman immediatley questioned Besco as to whether he even knew what the DREAM ACT was.

I'm told by people in attendance that it was an uncomfortable momement for everyone in the room because no one wanted to laugh at the guy for not knowing what the DREAM ACT was.

In the day and age of mobile phone internet access and wireless connections, Congressional candidates have no excuse for not knowing basic issues.

My question is where is Oscar Gonzalez? That guy is responsible for making sure his candidate is ready for debates. He's responsible for debate prep and messaging. Clearly he hasn't prepared his candidate adequatley in my opinion.

Gonzalez's website lists the services he provides as "Public Relations Public Affairs Political Consulting Business Development".

The question is, is this an indication of Gonzalez ability or what Besco is giving him to work with.
