Election Analysis - Mayor's Race

Image
So the "Democratic Stronghold of Texas" will now have a run-off for mayor between two Republicans. Which is why I'm encouraging everyone to go undervote in the run-off. That means going to show up to the run-off election and casting your ballot without selecting anyone. That sends a message that you want none of the above. Yes, someone has to, and will win. But a really high undervote sends a strong message, not that the winner of a race with a turn-out far below 10% will have a mandate for anything anyway. Dee Margo and David Saucedo will face off in the June run-off election and barring some major development, Dee Margo will be the next mayor of El Paso. And the reason why is because of the District 8 race being held on the same day. Yet again the westside accounted for a huge number of votes in a citywide election - and they didn't even have a city rep race pushing people out to the polls. They had more votes than areas of town that had a district race to vote for ...

Sorry, Not Sorry.

If you know anything about YISD, you know why the defeat of Ana Dueñez was a good thing for The District. Her last meeting is this week and should be the stuff of legend.

Just When I Was Defending Dora...

I should've known better than to defend her after all the dirty campaign stunts she's pulled over the years. So that's my bad. After seeing the television coverage of the call and finding out that Dora was pitching the story to media and wanting to be interviewed it made me realize something important. I wouldn't put it past Dora to have sent the call herself in order to manufacture coverage and controversy. When I watched her speak on camera about not engaging in dirty campaign tactics on the very same day a really negative piece of mail landed against Rep Limon is when it clicked. Limon hasn't sent out negative material. I think she should have, but it's not her thing. So it's highly unlikely that it came from her campaign. Acosta's comments seem all too convenient and rehearsed. Dora on the other hand has refined dirty campaigning to nuclear-grade capacity. I'm not saying she did it, but I'm not saying she wouldn't be above that either.

The Dirtiest Campaign Move I've Ever Seen...

Image
I've campaigned a lot in El Paso and have covered local elections for a decade. I've block walked every neighborhood in the county from colonias in the far edges in the county, to the Willows on the westside, from Segundo Barrio, to the furthest edges of precinct 50 in the northeast, from Vinton to Tornillo. So I've seen a lot of crazy campaign stuff in my day. From the silly to the downright dirty. And since most of my campaign activities have been in the valley, I've seen lots of dirty shit in a campaign. And to be honest, most of the dirty shit I've seen happen in campaigns had something to do with Dora Oaxaca. BUT.... Yesterday I heard the dirtiest campaign robo-call I've ever heard. And just how bad was it? It was so bad, it now has me defending Dora Oaxaca. Yes, Dora is usually the architect of dirty whisper campaigns and lots of other stuff that she has refined to nuclear-grade capacity over the years, but this was especially awful, below the belt, and me...

EPCC Trustee Candidate's Endorsement Woes

Image
Joshua Carter, longtime staffer of State Representative Mary Gonzalez is a candidate for the El Paso Community College Board of Trustees, has some problems with endorsements. Carter is claiming an endorsement he doesn't have and has been asked to remove the logo of an organization who is actually endorsing his opponent, but he hasn't done so yet. At issue is several pieces of campaign advertisement in which Carter is using that features the logo of the Ysleta Teachers Association, like this example here: The problem is that the Ysleta Teachers Association never endorsed Carter and is actually endorsing Carter's opponent. Despite having been asked to remove the logo and to stop saying he is endorsed by the organization, which is the 5th largest teacher's association in the State of Texas, he has continued to use it as of the time of this posting on his social media. Although its not really that surprising that Carter would roll the dice and continue to use a logo of an o...

Elisa Morales...Otra Con "Trustworthiness"

Image
I was going through my YouTube channel and I noticed that I forgot to publish the videos of Elisa Morales and Dee Margo at the Tejano Democrats endorsement event. So I clicked on it and watched it. I'll be honest, when she spoke I wasn't paying attention and as you can see in the video, not too many people in attendance were either. But now that I know her voting history. I'm glad I went back and watched it. First, because I think it would be a fun drinking game to take a shot every time she uses the term "federal level" in her speeches. Second, because she keeps referring to this "fire in her belly". Thats just shitty Mexican food from her hometown of San Antonio. Anywho...I wrote about Jaime Barceleau talking about how he can be trustworthy and then lied about his job title earlier today - and Elisa Morales has sorta slid under the radar for being a Republican basically from the start. She didn't lie when she was at the Tejano Democrats event. She ...
