Follow-up to Burka Piece

Image
I hate to keep hammering away on the same thing, but I got some complaints from some people yesterday about my piece about the Burka Blog's characterization of the Margo V. Moody race and the "report" Burka got from El Paso. Some people were very upset with me and took great exception to something I said. They feel that whoever the idiot was that gave Burka the info was, they were so stupid that they feel that a comparison to truck nuts was unfair and unwarranted. To truck nuts. They accurately pointed out that the inventor of truck nuts probably made a fortune. Which he probably did. Although I contend the money was probably spent on the world's largest collection of Nascar Commemorative Plates. But that is neither here nor there. Yes indeed the fella that invented truck nuts is probably a very wealthy man. But truck nuts are still stupid. We buy a lot of dumb stuff in this country, like snuggies for example. That guy is probably rich too. So I stand by the fact that...

Rookie Candidates No-Shows for Ballot Draws

Image
Aaron Barraza (left) Yet again demonstrating a fundamental lack of understanding of the political process in El Paso, Aaron Barraza missed the drawing for the placement on the ballot ceremony today. The candidates for HD 77 were scheduled to draw at 10:15am. State Representative Marisa Marquez and Hector Enriquez, candidate for HD 75 were the only two in attendance at the start of the event. Apparently people were starting to drag their feet, presumably to give Barraza a chance to show up so that he can draw for his place on the ballot. Drawing for a place on the ballot is a great ceremonial event where the families usually show up and its a photo up. Children of candidates often will draw the number for their parents. Its really the last time people are civil in public before a race gets ugly. But at any rate, its the big photo op. Especially if you use social media. Witnesses say Barraza showed up at around 11:45am, well more than an hour late. His place had to be drawn by Mrs. Herna...

Burka Blog Botched Big

Image
Paul Burka is a big-time blogger of Texas politics in Austin. He recently wrote a piece about Margo and Moody. Too bad he got it wrong...big time. Here's the first few lines of the piece, which can be found in its entirety her e. "This is a swing district, one of the few in the state. I thought it presented the Democrats with a good opportunity to pick up a seat, but the report I get from El Paso is that Moody has been almost invisible in the community since he lost the seat in 2010." The report? What idiot did Burka talk to? Seriously, did he speak to a Margo staffer or a Margo cheerleader for that quote. Who ever gave Burka that "report" is dumber than the idiot that came up with the idea of marketing truck nuts. Let me underscore just how stupid of an assessment that "report" is. Its almost like they held an American Idol of stupid in El Paso and Burka spoke to the winner. Moody has been getting ready for another run at Margo for quite some time now...

Caballero Debate Highlights

Below is video of Theresa Caballero, who is pursing a judicial position in this year's primary election. As you will see and hear, she is asked by a student from Burges High School about being cited for contempt of court in her recent successful defense of Judge Regina Arditti at a debate on Saturday. Interestingly I heard that she was supposed to have some sort of legal proceeding on that issue this month, ironically in the very court she is pursing to be the judge of, but it no longer appears to be happening. The student wanted to know if Caballero was the judge in the case, what she would've done differently and why. Caballero started the answer off by saying, "Well I wouldn't have started the case off by being a bigot..." Which made me laugh because she represented Tom Brown and the rest of the El Pasoans for Traditional Family values even more recently than the Arditti case. Gotta love this town. In her closing remarks she talks about public sentiment towards...
