Moore or Wes?

Image
Spoiler alert, the answer is Moore.  Now let me explain what I'm talking about.   No one would blame you if you didn't know there was an election coming up next Saturday, its a run-off election and its for one district area in a school board race.  EPISD and SISD have massive public trust issues right now and both of them are in the wake of controversial resignations from their respective superintendents in which both supers were given big fat tax-payer funded golden parachutes. Which was nothing more than a money-grab on their parts. They knew controversy was following them but they still wanted to get a pay out at your expense, and the trustees (rightfully, at least in the case of EPISD) were willing to pay the price to get rid of them. So the fact that both districts had school board elections this cycle was a big deal, even if it was pretty quiet. In fact, the fact that two union-backed incumbents were kicked out was probably at least partially the reason that Espinoz...

Anthony Aguero: Felonies & Firearms

Image
You gotta love the fact that Pedro Anthony Aguero, aka Conservative Anthony, just loves to admit to crimes on the video's he likes to create and post.  If you remember back on Treason Day when Trump supporters engaged in an insurrection against the United States of America in order to prevent and constitutionally mandated function of government because they don't like the fact that Trump lost the election, Aguero was front and center admitting his role. He did so in a now-deleted video, but fear not - your boy LionStar grabbed it before he could delete it.  Well, it turns out that it wasn't the first admission to a crime on the part of Aguero. And no, I'm not talking about his various felonies and assorted drug charges. I'm talking about his post-prison time.  Felons aren't supposed to have firearms.  In fact I know for a fact that another incident involving photos of Aguero with firearms has already been raised with law enforcement.  Now this video doesn't ...

Unintended Confession?

Image
Okay, its about to pick up here on The LionStar Blog over the next few days. I've been working on a lot of stuff lately and hopefully you'll find it interesting.  Tomorrow I'm posting something that demonstrates just how stupid local politicos can be.  How stupid? I'm glad you asked. A controversial local figure was busted on a hot mic admitting something that could land them in prison.   And obviously, I have the audio.  Its a Doctoral thesis in pendejadas.  And the day after that, I'll have some candy for the other side of the local political aisle. It was something I was going to be quiet about, but in hindsight, I think its pretty bad to keep my mouth shut about it. So I'm kicking the doors down...

School District SWAT Teams...¡No Mames!

Image
I know that the natural tendency is to focus on how much of a shit-show EPISD is, but lately Socorro ISD is like, "hold my beer". And an article in El Paso Matters has highlighted the latest desmadre coming out of SISD - the creation of a SWAT Team.  Yes, you read that correctly. A SWAT team. They want to call it something else, but its a SWAT team no matter what you call it.  Like when you get a wrap and its on "flat bread" - we know a tortilla when we see one.  If you've read the LSB for any amount of time you know I have railed against how our community is over-policed and over militarized. Tax payers pay multiple times for the same services - public safety. Pick your part of the county and you probably pay for public safety once for the county, once for the city you live in, once for UTEP, once for community college, once for the constables, and once for your school district's police force.  Thats 6 times paying for the same thing.   Do you pay for the ...

SISD & The Gandara Gambit

Image
As you may know by now, the last Gandara in local politics was ousted in this weekends election in Socorro ISD. Gary Gandara, younger brother to El Padrino, former Precinct 3 County Commissioner Willie Gandara who went to prison for running drugs, and son of former SISD Trustee Willie Gandara Sr who went to prison for corruption, was defeated in his reelection bid on Saturday. He was one of two incumbents ousted on the board, which has some serious implications for controversial Superintendent Jose Espinoza. Espinoza no longer has a majority on the board and this race was largely a referendum on holding Espinoza accountable.  But - as anything with the word "Socorro" in it, there appears to be a movida afoot.  Paul Garcia abruptly resigned his position with SISD during the late stages of the election, citing "personal reasons". People have speculated all sorts of things about his resignation, from him being a whistleblower to the FBI, to him being the target of som...
